Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, the Employee Benefits Assistant will provide administrative support to Benefits Department. The individual will manage daily office operations. The candidate will be responsible for interactions with employees, vendors and SUNY agencies in person or through phone or email communications.
The selected candidate will be expected to work IN PERSON/ON SITE in East Setauket 5 days a week.
The Employee Benefits Department is a fast paced, high volume department that touches every employee at the Hospital and LISVH. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior communication and organization skills and the ability to multitask while adhering to our high standard of employee customer service and excellence.
Duties of an Employee Benefits Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:
Provide administrative support to the Benefits Department.Meet, greet and assist employees visiting the Benefits Department; collect forms, answer questions and provide guidance as needed. Manage incoming mail, email box and faxes received; review and distribute to appropriate Benefits Administrator, HR and Payroll. Complete requests for benefit verifications including requests from employees, retirement plans/vendors and health insurance carriers. Manage monthly address report and updating personal information in health insurance plan system.Order new employee health insurance ID cards as requested.Provide employees with retirement information and forms.Assist with review of weekly benefit change reports.Assist with processing of retiree sick leave credit allowances into health insurance carrier system. Coordinate meeting rooms for visiting vendors; send out employee notices with dates and locations.Attend required training meetings with SUNY Benefits.Additional duties may include: assisting Benefits Administrators during high volume periods with processing benefit forms and assist with benefit audits when necessary. Provide backup administrative assistance to the Leaves Department (coverage during absences).
Qualifications
Required: Associate's degree and at least 2 years of administrative experience or, in lieu of a degree, at least 4 years of full time administrative experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Must be extremely reliable, dependable and possess strong organizational skills.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree. 1 or more years of Benefits and/or Human Resources customer service experience.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $41,372 - $48,578 / year.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087
