About Electronics Technician

  Summary This position is located in Air Traffic Organization, Western Service Area, Technical Operations, ATC Facilities, Engineering Services (AJW-2W), NAV/AIDS Construction/Installation Center, AJW-2W14F. The incumbent performs highly specialized technical work associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluating the most complex systems for which FAA is responsible. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, and performs work with a high degree of independence keeping the manager informed of significant problem areas. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the NAS as an integrated system in order to deal with unusual problems or unanticipated issues. Independently evaluates the functional status of systems and facilities. Performs multiple, varying and complex projects. Applies experience and technical knowledge to review installation designs and specifications, prepare material take-off lists, manage project logistics, purchase materials, determines and implements construction methods, evaluates and prepares risk mitigation plans, installs/constructs/integrates equipment and systems, complies with safety procedures, tests and troubleshoots issues, coordinates activities with stakeholders, provides project status updates, attends project meetings, executes site surveys, participates in CAl's and JAI's, and performs other project related tasks. Incumbent may be called upon to provide guidance and training to other employees. Work is reviewed in terms of appropriateness of actions taken, thoroughness, and the achievement of overall objectives. Work may have direct impact on air traffic control operations. Contacts are internal and external to the organization such as, but not limited to, State and Federal agencies, Defense (DoD), airport management, contractors, and utility companies. Incumbent maintains technical competency on legacy systems, as well as obtains the skills to install, integrate, maintain, and restore new, technologically advanced, systems. Uses appropriate technical documentation for guidance in performing work. Exercises practical judgment and discretion in accomplishing work assignments. Possesses broad knowledge of FAA policies and procedures pertaining to the work environment (i.e. OSHA, NEC, HR Directives, etc.). Demonstrates sound knowledge of administrative tools and policies related to the accomplishment of work. The G band is considered developmental and requires less responsibility/complexity and more supervision. The incumbent may be required to solder and de-solder electrical components as necessary for the installation of equipment in the NAS. Physical requirements may include use of basic hand tools and power tools as required for the installation of electronic equipment. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to climb antenna towers, poles, or structures in excess of 50 feet above the ground. The H band is considered the full journeyman level. This position has a full performance grade level of FV-856-H, and the incumbent may be promoted non-competitively upon meeting the promotion criteria as stated in the PASS Collective Bargaining Agreement. Qualifications To qualify for this position at the FV-G (FG/GS-10-11) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F, FG/GS 4-9 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Experience with installation, maintenance, and modification of electronics and environmental equipment. Equipment may include but is not limited to equipment related to radar systems, navigational aid equipment such as lighted and distance measuring equipment, communication systems such as radio/microwave communications. To qualify for this position at the FV-H (FG/GS-12) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS 10/11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Work as an electronics installation technician demonstrating a theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic principles, and of the characteristics, function, operation and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. Work includes but is not limited to installation, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of systems and system components such as computers, navigation and communications equipment, and electronic data communications equipment.
