About ELECTRONICS MECHANIC

  Summary You will serve as a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC in the Production Trades Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. You will independently perform depot level overhaul, disassembly, repair, modification, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, alignment, installation and maintenance on electronic equipment of moderate complexity or a system limited complexity. Responsibilities You will set up and operate stand-alone Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) which is used to test and troubleshoot Weapon Repairable Assembly (WRA). You will select and load the test program for the unit under testing. You will evaluate fault reports to determine if an item should be returned to the repair section or if repair or adjustment can be made so testing can continue. You will work from manufactures specifications, schematics, block diagrams or technical orders. You will use a variety of test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, signa/pulse generators, oscilloscopes and frequency counters. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MOR THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. A. Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Overhaul, disassembly, repair, modification, assembly, testing troubleshooting, alignment, installation and maintenance on electronic equipment of moderate complexity or a system limited complexity; 2) Evaluate, perform functional tests, trouble shoot and determine the extent of repair required; 3) Using a variety of hand tools to effectively execute repairs, and replace defective components; and 4) Operating electronic principles such as but not limited to: microminiaturized digital and solid state integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, tube circuits, antennas, signal transmission, oscillation, and amplification. B. Have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including: 1) Overhaul, disassembly, repair, and modification, assembly, testing troubleshooting, alignment, installation and maintenance on electronic equipment; 2) Evaluate, perform functional tests, trouble shoot and determine the extent of repair required; and 3) Using a variety of hand tools to effectively execute repairs, and replace defective components. C. Have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Disassembly, repair, modification, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, alignment, installation and maintenance on electronic equipment; and 2) Using a variety of hand tools such as soldering irons, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
