  Shift: Monday- Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  Compensation: $28.11/hour

  A Brief Summary of This Position:

  Assists with and performs highly skilled technical work in areas of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment with a wide knowledge and high degree of proficiency. The incumbent assists with new installations of equipment and performs common repairs and replacements. Electromechanical Technician 1 has a solid knowledge and the ability to follow Arc Flash requirements which are pertinent to the job. The employee assists with installation of distribution equipment including gutters, disconnects, conduits and cables in accordance with UL and National Electrical Code as well as the proper replacement or adjustment of mechanical clutches and drive trains. The technician at this tier level performs minor electrical functions which include installation and repair of lighting up to 110V, repair of small fixtures, fans, and appliances while also assisting with repair of welders, wire feeds, plasma cutters, and motors over 110V. The technicians help perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair plant production equipment. The technician uses trouble shooting aids, such as digital VOM to accurately interpret readings. The types of equipment serviced and maintained include: cranes, lathes, drills, presses, press brakes, shears, robots, tube mills, high frequency induction equipment, distribution equipment, CNC and NC equipment. Apart from general house cleaning tasks, the electromechanical technician also performs general responsibilities such as recording labor and materials and the reporting of abnormal conditions and safety hazards. The incumbent will also occasionally be in charge of different industrial lifting equipment and is expected to operate all the hoists and forklifts in a safe and efficient manner.

  Essential Functions:

  Troubleshoot Electrical and electronic as well as hydraulic & pneumatic troubleshooting should progressively get better.

  Other common functions to learn at a tier 1 level are dropping power to a machine, replacing proximity switches, replacing a hydraulic pump, replacing a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder, or installing a Hoffman box with PLC.

  Whether the installation of low voltage electrical equipment meets National Electrical Codes, OSHA and Valmont Safety Standards is a decision of the technician.

  The tier 1 techs also assists with troubleshooting electronic, electrical, & mechanical systems that do require considerable judgment although final diagnostic of a problem is not normally done by a tier 1 technician.

  An Electromechanical Tech 1 has to be able to decide whether or not equipment can run or needs immediate attention for repairs. A tier 1 technician may be called upon by a supervisor or lead to summarize jobs and give evaluations.

  Other Important Details about the Role:

  Responsible for hand tools, electrical tools, volt/ohm and amp meters and other testing equipment, welders, including transportation equipment and lifting equipment.

  Required considerable care and attention on the part of the employee to minimize damage to gauges, tools and equipment.

  Demonstrated commitment to safety and a willingness to take personal responsibility for safety is required.

  Responsible to maintain the work area in a safe condition.

  Pre-use checklists will be filled out by the employee for forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  Lockout/tagout procedures are mandatory.

  Work alongside a lesser-skilled technician. In this case, the employee needs to take care that the lesser-skilled technician is working safely and correctly.

  Assist the new co-worker with the task at hand.

  Employee operates as a member of the team, but not as a lead.

  Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  A High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  The ability to climb and work at elevated heights of up to eighty feet

  The ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs

  One year of previous experience maintaining industrial equipment

  One year of previous experience using industrial lifting equipment, cranes or hoists

  One year of previous experience using at least one of the following troubleshooting aides: thermography gun, digital VOM, volt, ohm or amp meters

  The ability to accurately interpret electrical schematics, blueprints and National Electrical Code books for both AC & DC electrical systems

  The ability to read and understand hydraulic and pneumatic valves and prints

  The ability to pass the written Electromechanical Technician 1 test with a minimum score of 69 and a level 1 hands-on test

  A working knowledge of using e-mail

  Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  Ability to operate a forklift

  Experience welding and fabricating

  Self-starter requiring a minimum of supervision and direction

  Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical troubleshooting

  Experience with low-voltage electrical / electronic troubleshooting

  Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

  A degree in Electromechanical Technology

  Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

  Most of this job is performed in an indoor shop environment. The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about 50 degrees in the winter. Most operations may expose employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Some areas of the plant can be a noisy at times with sound levels reaching above 85 decibels. Hearing protection is available for those areas. Safety glasses and metatarsal safety shoes are required at all times in the plant. Gloves are required during certain operations. Face shield is required in addition to safety glasses when grinding. The employee operates machines that use liquid coolant and may also be exposed to cast iron dust. The employees must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the plant environment. Some outdoor work is required which includes work in conditions with abnormal temperatures. Employee works around material stacked overhead height. Conditions range from clean work to exposure to odors, fumes, drafts, wet conditions, dirt, grease, smoke, dust, noise, high temperatures and low frigid temperatures. These conditions range from severe to mild and can happen daily and in any combination. An Electromechanical Technician works in disagreeable weather conditions nearly 30% of the year.

  Operator must stand and walk, as well as handle parts, tools and equipment, gripping and grasping, on a frequent to constant basis. On an occasional to frequent basis, operator is required to lift/carry parts. Most weight moved is less than 30 lb. Although a few items do weigh more, a maximum lift of 50 lb. is all that is required. Standing, bending, pivoting, walking and reaching overhead are required during most of the shift. Climbing ladders, pulling wire through conduit, hanging fixtures and electrical components also requires a physical exertion. Lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, stretching, crawling and working in awkward and/or confined positions is frequent with any electromechanical technician. Some of the physical tasks include hanging gearboxes on top of machines, changing brakes or the motors on cranes.
