The A pprenticeship
An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable, real-life experiences.
We are looking for 2 apprentices to join our Integrated Component and Solutions (ICS) team located at our Peterborough facility (PE1 5FQ). Our ICS team offers some of the most exciting Engineering roles within our global business. Apprentices joining this team will have the opportunity to collaborate with our technical experts worldwide, focused on the integration, development, application, and validation of electrical and electronic control systems for diesel engines, electric drivetrains, and construction machine products.
Our apprentices will:
earn a competitive salary package, starting at c. £23,950 per year,
receive 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays,
have access to a contributory share and pension scheme, flexible benefits, flexible working opportunities, family-friendly policies and up to 9% bonus.
In collaboration with our partnered training provider, University of Nottingham (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/) , our up to 6 -year degree apprenticeship scheme will enable you to grow and develop your capabilities. Alongside on-the-job training supported by relatable mentors, apprentices will spend at least 20% of their working hours completing university-based learning leading to life-long professional qualification s through the Level 6 Electro-Mechanical Engineering (https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/electro-mechanical-engineer-v1-0) apprenticeship standard;
an Electro-Mechanical Engineer degree a pprenticeship c ertificate , and
aBEng (Hons) Electro-Mechanical Engineering (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/engineering/campaigns/apprenticeships/electro-mechanical-engineer-degree-apprenticeship.aspx) .
As part of this programme apprentices are required to attend university on a block release basis, therefore apprentices are required to travel and potentially stay over.
This degree programme is on path to achieve IEng (Incorporated Engineer) and CEng ( Chartered Engineer) award .
The E xperience
Apprentices will gain exposure to:
embedded software design and development,
control system modelling and analysis,
electronic componentselection and validation,
system specifications,
system level development and validation,
product health analysis and quality issue resolution.
From day one you will be embedded in a team solving real world problems.
Entry R equirement
GCSEs: Maths and English LanguageGCSEs at Grade 5 (C) or above.
A-Levels: BBB grades, to include Mathematics and a Science (could include Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, etc).
NOTE:
Equivalent academic qualifications (i.e. BTECs, T-Levels, etc) to the above requirements welcome.
Unfortunately, the following A-Level’s will not be accepted: Citizenship Skills, General Studies and Critical Thinking.
You can apply with predicted grades. If you’re successful at the interview stage, the job offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grades before September 2024.

Recruitment Process
Stage one – Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application; this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for. Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage.
Stage two – Assessment Centre : The half day assessment centre (i.e. interview) will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. Each will consist of a group exercise, an interview and a presentation. Details will vary depending on the career area/role you are applying for. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible.
Stage three – Offer: After the assessment centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our chosen candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible.
We hold an Engagement Day for all new apprentices to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the facility before your employment start date. Apprentices will join the business in September 2024.
