Job Description:
Your primary focus will be leading the design and development of spacecraft electrical power subsystems through all phases of system development as well as lead the design and development of space electronics through all phases of the product lifecycle. To do this, you will use tools such as power budgets and simulations to derive and maintain system requirements. You will be a responsible engineer for the sizing, specification, and development of hardware components such as solar panels, batteries, power controllers, and solar array drive mechanisms, and work with external and internal teams to develop and deliver this hardware for spacecraft production. You will also provide general electrical engineering expertise to help solve a wide array of design challenges that arise through the course of design, development, integration, test, launch, and operation of small satellite constellations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead electrical subsystem design for smallsat spacecraft
Participate in all phases of electrical subsystem development: design, integration, test, operations, and maintenance
Develop and maintain system deliverables such as Power Budgets, System Electrical Interface Diagrams, and Power Simulations
Create and review system-level electrical design documents (e.g. flight harnesses, interconnect diagrams, grounding schemes)
Work closely with internal and external hardware providers to review designs, identify and resolve issues and develop integration and test approaches
Work with test engineers to develop test plans that ensure adequate testing of units and the complete system
Support a production line by being a spacecraft electrical engineering subject matter expert for issues that may occur
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science (or greater) degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
5+ years of experience developing and delivering electrical hardware systems for launch vehicles or satellites.
Proficiency in designing spacecraft power system concepts from contract level requirements and Concepts of Operations (CONOPS)
Experience with managing and reviewing existing in-house and subcontractor designs/subassemblies
Experience working in a controlled lab environment for: troubleshooting and diagnosis of electronics, debug and board bringup, and system level testing
Familiarity with building Power Budgets for spacecraft and first principals regarding battery and photovoltaic technology
A passion for technology and rapid execution of sophisticated space missions
Must be ITAR compliant
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency with Altium or similar tools for circuit design/schematic capture and library management
Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.) or similar tools in an agile development process
Familiarity with requirements management tools (JAMA, DOORS, etc.)
