  Job Description Summary

  The EHS Specialist will be a member of site operations team in GE Turkey Technology Center (TTC) with a primary focus on ensuring compliance with corporate and local regulatory EHS requirements related to health, safety, and environmental management The role will be reporting to site EHS Leader and requires hands-on attitude. Main responsibilities will be to develop, plan and execute the Environmental Health and Safety programs and policies, risk assessments, employee trainings, incident investigations and engagement with internal/external audits.

  Working in close partnership with the site’s local engineering teams, laboratories, advance repair and manufacturing workshop and also with global EHS teams is critical to ensure that EHS is embedded into daily operating rhythms and helping to further develop our safety-first culture.

  Job Description

  Essential Responsibilities:

  Define, improve, lean, simplify, communicate and maintain site EHS program requirements and expectations.

  Hands-on approach.

  Conduct pre-job risk assessments on site and manage required permits according to site’s EHS policies.

  Supervise and guide GE emloyees, internal/external contractors and visitors during daily activities and ensure compliance with local regulations and company EHS policies by conducting regular Genba walks/patrols.

  Take responsibility of being the only Occupational Safety Specialist for GE Aerospace Turkey Technology Center for Gebze, Istanbul and Ankara locations. Develop, conduct, and coordinate required EHS trainings.

  Conduct EHS audits.

  Own the EHS responsibilities under Management of Change process for Site Operations and Engineering.

  Manage PPE inventory at site.

  Implement/modify related EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance.

  Maintain an in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed regulations.

  Modify and implement compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems.

  Manage environmental regulatory topics, with reference to air, water and waste.

  Provide and determine alternatives for issue resolution.

  Ensure compliance of plant operations with regulatory requirements relating to air, solid waste, chemical, water, health and safety.

  Drive GE Aerospace EHS initiatives and values.

  Maintain, improve and promote a healthy and safe work environment for TTC.

  Ensure compliance with national and local environmental, health and safety regulations.

  Work closely with operations to ensure implementation of effective EHS processes and systems using EHS management framework (FW 2.0) and scorecard systems.

  Conduct accident and incident investigations to determine root cause and proactive solutions.

  Lead EHS compliance assessments and report progress toward achieving business EHS goals and objectives.

  Support the development of health and safety awareness programs and facilitate communications with employees.

  Drive reduction on carbon footprint of the supported sites

  Collaboration with local authorities regarding EHS related topics,

  Drive and own environmental goals,

  Adhere to internal Quality and Safety Policies and Procedures as they pertain to the position to ensure that all activities are carried out safely, effectively, with the highest quality and according to regulations.

  Communicate effectively with global and regional GE EHS Teams.

  Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.

  Be located at GE Marmara Technology Center, Gebze – Kocaeli, TURKEY as main location and support offices in Istanbul and Ankara.

  Requirements / Qualifications:

  Degree in Engineering, preferably Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or B.Sc. degree in related environment, health, and safety disciplines from a reputable university

  Previous hands-on work experience in EHS at least for 6 years

  B-Class Occupational Safety Certificate from Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security

  Must possess a “hands on” attitude

  Knowledge of international EHS standards (ISO14001 and ISO45001)

  Strong oral and written communication skills

  Ability to prioritize and balance multiple ongoing tasks

  Strong knowledge of EHS management systems, EHS standards and EHS & Safety regulations

  Positive influencing skills in a team environment of a dispersed management and workforce

  Ability to travel to perform responsibilities and duties

  Proactive approach to Environmental Health & Safety

  Eager to learn, open to communication, self-motivated, high follow-up/control ability

  A lean approach to processes is a plus

  Good command of English & Turkish (reading/writing)

  Good command of MS Office Skills (especially MS Excel and MS Power point)

  Desired Characteristics:

  Data Analysis skills

  Knowledge of GE EHS programs and systems (Including GenSuite, FW 2.0, ComplyWorks)

  Strong team player

  Strong time management skills

  Project management experience

  Familiarity with lean approaches such as: 5S, Kaizen, Structured Problem Solving

  Ability to be effective in a cross-functional, cross-cultural team environment

  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with contractors and contingent employees
