Idaho is home to over 57,000 businesses and it’s estimated that 85 percent of the total jobs in Idaho are with companies that have been in the state for more than five years. Much of the job growth and capital investment that the state experiences is due to the success of our existing Idaho companies.
The Economic Development Specialist will develop strong, long-term relationships with Idaho’s industries, businesses, and communities to further develop meaningful business, trade, and economic opportunities. The Economic Development Specialist will ensure that Idaho’s existing companies are aware of the tools Idaho Commerce and other stakeholders have available to encourage job creation and capital investment in our state. The Economic Development Specialist will coordinate Idaho’s International and domestic trade programs, forging strong relationships with Idaho’s industries, businesses, officials and other government & economic organizations to further develop strong ties within the diverse industry and business sectors throughout Idaho.
Examples of Duties
Builds relationships with existing Idaho companies and provides assistance through Commerce and other state agency resources.
Executes high level management visits/tours of existing Idaho companies.
Gathers data from industry, subscriptions and open sources to help businesses and stakeholders make decisions on expansion, trade and retention opportunities.
Assists businesses with their expansion plans by connecting them to market, trade development, financing and workforce planning resources.
Establishes a network of private and public contacts to market Idaho for business opportunities.
Acts as a relationship manager between industries and communities to promote business expansion, trade and retention.
Plans and participates at domestic and international trade shows to market Idaho for trade development, business expansion, retention and relocation
Consults with Idaho's businesses on foreign trade opportunities, global business economic conditions, international marketing practices, financings tools, import-export regulation documentation, and tariffs
Supports the operation of Idaho's overseas trade offices
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
Working in a professional capacity with federal, state, or local economic development/assistance programs.
Organizing and conducting workshops and making presentations.
Good knowledge of:
Economic development, business assistance and marketing concepts.
State and local economic development practices.
Desired candidates will have:
Business development skills and sales experience
Event and/or trade show planning and experience
Good knowledge of promotion and marketing concepts.
Understanding of Idaho’s industry and business environment
Strong networking skills
Excellent teamworking skills
Outstanding oral communication skills.
Superior written skills.
Some knowledge of marketing concepts, social media, and promotion
Good knowledge and experience in gathering, analyzing and presenting data
Some knowledge of contracts/grants.
Supplemental Information:
All candidates must be willing to travel throughout Idaho, throughout the United States and/or on international trips up to 20% of the time. Occasional afterhours international business calls/meetings may be required.
