SUMMARY:
The Economic Development Division (EDD) Director shall be responsible for the strategic leadership and execution of the Tribe’s economic development functions and daily division operations. The Director will identify projects, programs, and initiatives that support economic development and diversification within the Akwesasne. The Director will ensure that the goals and objectives of the EDD Strategic Implementation Plan & the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Provide active leadership and mentorship to all Division staff in the execution of their responsibilities.
Identify, articulate and promote Division goals and objectives.
Ensure completion of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS)
Identify and network directly internally and with community and external stakeholders to accomplish Division goals
Maintain active engagement and communication with local business community and regional Chambers of Commerce.
Identify and submit proposals to funding sources for current and new Economic Development Division initiatives.
Stay abreast of state and federal legislation affecting Economic Development opportunities and impacting the Akwesasne business community
Serve as a technical advisor to the Tewathahonni Corporation; maintain open communication with Tewathahonni Corporation CEO.
Oversee the administration of the Akwesasne Revolving Loan Fund (ARLF) to eligible businesses to promote economic growth within Akwesasne
Promote awareness of the Division’s initiatives to the Akwesasne Community.
Develop and manage annual division budget and operating plan. Monitor and report on effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
Respond to inquiries about the Division’s special projects, programs, services & initiatives.
Serves as a liaison between the business community and the Tribal Government.
Oversee and conduct market research, surveys, impact studies, and analyze data on factors affecting Economic Development to stay abreast of new trends and innovations.
Ensure a safe working environment for staff and strong team communication.
Exhibit a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner when interacting with community members and fellow employees
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Perform other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
The Director shall carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable Tribal rules. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, training employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining, and timecard functions for assigned staff.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
The incumbent shall have a minimum of five-years supervisory experience in combination with the following: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in Business Administration, Community Planning or a related discipline with a minimum of 4 years’ economic development experience and 4 years of management experience in a related field OR Associates degree with 10 years of any combination of economic development and management experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The ability to utilize strong interpersonal and networking skills when interacting with the public as a representative of the Tribe, while maintaining high ethical, honest, and moral standards, is crucial. Strong computer, and presentation skills including proficiency in word and excel are required. Strong research, organizational, planning, implementation, and public speaking skills are also necessary. Must possess strong project and program management skills, as well as strong decision-making, budgeting, and negotiation skills. Additionally, strong analytical and critical thinking skills are essential.
Should be capable of working under pressure, meeting aggressive timelines, and adapting to unexpected deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Flexibility in working hours is also expected. Furthermore, should be able to assist or direct the public to the appropriate authorities to help them achieve their goals whenever possible.
Knowledge of the Mohawk Language and SRMT programs and policies would be advantageous. Must promote a harmonious team-based work environment.

A list of qualified candidates is created from interviews that may be used for Emergency Hire individuals to similar positions within the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe for a period of six months.
