Responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare entries to accounts such as general ledger accounts and documenting business transactions. Analyze financial information detailing commodity revenue/ expense and related assets/ liabilities.
Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned)
The director of tax planning will have a broad leadership role in the organization with primary areas of focus including but not limited to:
Strategic Planning: Identifying, analyzing, and resolving tax issues and their financial impacts on a wide range of transactions and global business initiatives. Assists with defining and implementing the company's global tax strategies and maintaining its global tax architecture. Will work with other Directors of Tax to assist the Vice President of Tax on strategic tax planning initiatives. Responsible for managing and directing activities regarding income tax research and planning required of the organization. Works to optimize the tax obligation of the organization.
Development Project Tax Strategy: Work with the commercial development team, legal team and construction and engineering team to organize and manage a development project tax planning program. Responsible for organizing and optimizing the tax position of corporate development and construction projects. Decisions typically strategic in nature, focusing on long-term consequences and development and implementation of organization-wide projects, strategies and business ventures.
Results have strategic impact and affect the functioning of major portions of the organization.
Works within broad objectives and ambiguity. Identifies and evaluates high impact issues and provides strategy and direction for the department.
Responsibilities:
Implementing effective tax strategies, conducting thorough research on tax laws, managing relationships with business functions, and providing guidance on project-specific tax implications.
Coordinating tax-related aspects of development projects, ensuring timely completion of tax deliverables, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and managing project budgets related to tax matters.
The ability to effectively prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and provide strategic direction for tax planning within the context of development initiatives.
Identifying applicable incentives, credits, and compliance requirements for various development projects.
Stay abreast of evolving regulations in the renewable energy sector and collaborate with project teams to optimize tax outcomes.
Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration, including but not limited to coordinating within various tax disciplines. Fostering communication and collaboration among teams specializing in income tax, indirect tax, and other relevant areas. The need for seamless integration of tax strategies across different disciplines to ensure comprehensive and effective tax planning.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Strong leadership skills, experience in tax planning for development projects, and staying current with tax regulations.
Strong project management skill is required in order to successful execute and integrate tax strategies into project workflows.
Strong preference for expertise in renewable development, including battery storage and carbon capture and storage.
Ability to navigate the complexities of diverse tax aspects while maintaining a cohesive and coordinated approach within the organization.
Master’s degree in business taxation preferred.
Previous management experience. CPA or JD required.
Minimum of 10+ years in area of specialization.
