JOB SUMMARY:This ministry needs a leader who meets with young children and adolescents for worship, community service projects, Bible study and ministry events. He or she will also need to be able to readily engage/assist in Sunday School and the formation of a Youth Group and the subsequent activities. The Director will need to possess the capacity and capability to organize monthly family activities once the Director is well established in his/her position.QUALIFICATIONS:A passion and calling for youth ministry is a must. Experience in youth ministry and good communications skills is a bonus but not mandatory. The Director should be devoted, self-disciplined, and an effective leader.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Basic knowledge of the teachings of the Bible and knowledge of Zion Lutheran ELCA are important. A general information packet will be provided by the Zion Lutheran Youth and Education Committee. A key factor in youth and ministry is keeping current with the trends and issues that are important to children, teens, and families, and being able to speak to said people in a way they understand.TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Director is expected to oversee the youth ministry, direct and carry out its mission and vision as defined by the Zion Youth and Education Committee. The Director will also need to encourage and nurture the youth as well as their families, and explore different ways to keep youth motivated and involved in the church.A very important task will be to develop ministry events for youth that will inspire and motivate them. Ability to lead worship and music for both is a plus. Further, the Director will recruit, train and empower disciples and teachers to serve in this ministry.The Director will either attend monthly Church Council meetings or prepare a monthly progress/ activities report. Monthly communication with the Youth and Education Committee and the ability to communicate with the pastor on a regular basis will be expected.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR INCLUDE:1. Assist with Zion Lutheran Sunday School with the future potential in directing and teaching of the program.2. Provide oversight and coordination of the Vacation Bible School program. (Typically held in the summer.)3. Direct fund-raising activities to support the youth ministry.4. Assist with the youth ministry and Sunday School bank accounts and submit a monthly report to the Church Council.5. Assume other duties as assigned by the Zion Church Council.TIME COMMITMENT/PAY:The Director's position is 15-20 hours per month during the school calendar year. Additional hours are allowed for travel and assembly activities that involve weekends. Pay starts at $20 per hour and will be determined depending on experience and/or prior education.
