  OverviewABOUT THE POSITION

  VHB is seeking a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial, and experienced Director of Transit & Rail for our Northeast Region (New York/New Jersey focus). Our Director of Transit & Rail will manage transit and rail projects, including conceptual, preliminary, and final engineering design involving light rail transit, bus rapid transit, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail and freight rail improvements. The ideal candidate will be market connected and guide business development efforts through an emphasis on advance positioning and early identification of strategic pursuits. This hire will manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers in the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of rail and transit infrastructure projects.

  Responsibilities

  Develop a vision and implementation strategies for local and regional groups and communicate these across region

  Maintain active market knowledge while understanding internal and external capabilities, strengths, and weaknessesGuide business development efforts through an emphasis on advance positioning and early identification of strategic pursuits Manage multiple concurrent projects of various topics and complexityDevelop, manage, and maintain project schedules and budgetsLead development of project deliverables and provide quality controlManage financial progress through timely submittal of invoices and progress reports and initiation of change orders for out-of-scope servicesPrepare and deliver technical reports, analyses, and presentationsPrepare and maintain resource plansManage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and scientistsTake an active role in business development and identify planning prospectsRepresent VHB at regional conferences, seminars, and industry eventsManage and prepare technical and cost proposalsCoordinate on teaming decisions with other Regional DirectorsTake an active role in the development and mentoring of the Transit & Rail group staffSkills and Attributes

  Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills and analytical skillsExcellent public speaking skills and business development skillsExcellent project management skillsStrong capability in use of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPointCapability in the use of project management applications such as MS Project or PrimaveraQualifications

  15+ years of professional rail/transit engineering experience in the Northeast, with recent management experience focused on NY/NJ rail/transit projects requiredDemonstrated and progressive relationships with NY-area clients including NYCT, MTA, LIRR, Metro-North, NJ TRANSIT, and PATHDemonstrated knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and programsProven ability to manage a multidisciplinary teamNY PE (Professional Engineer) license required, NJ and PA PE license preferredBS in Civil Engineering or related fieldOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $178,000-240,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
