Director Pharmacy Finance
To support VUMC Pharmacy (inclusive Retail, Specialty, Multiple Contract Pharmacies (MCP) and all Hospital/Clinic, Medical Center Main Campus, Ambulatory Adult and Pediatric Clinics and Regional Hospitals) financial operations and compliance with 340B program requirements.
Job Description:
Supports VUMC initiatives impacting pharmacy operations or 340B enrollment including proforma financial analysis, clinical site location assessment, managed care rate analysis, and fee schedule analysis
In collaboration with pharmacy procurement team, monitors purchasing activity and accumulator balances for Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and Public Health Service (PHS) accounts.
Works with VUMC’s finance team on monthly pharmacy revenue and drug cost of goods sold (COGS) financial statement close activities including revenue recognition, expense estimates, inventory valuation, financial analysis and reporting.
Shared oversight for Pharmacy Revenue Cycle activities in accordance with VUMC policies including submission of claims, cash posting, accounts receivable monitoring, and granting of charity care.
Monitors VUMC’s disclosures on the Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA) Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA) portal and participates in VUMC’s annual 340B compliance audit.
Active in committee managing EPIC Facility/Organization structure in partnership with Health IT to maintain location database of eligible 340B sites
Acts as an internal consultant for VUMC Hospital and Clinic Finance Officers analyzing pharmacy activity including support and publishing monthly reporting packages, as needed
Professional Experience/Qualifications/Traits:
Working knowledge of pharmacy operations in both the retail and hospital/clinic service venues with familiarity for the related regulatory environment of each.
Basic understanding of the 340B drug discount program and personal commitment to expand knowledge base to level of expertise needed to support a top-tier program.
Experience working in a highly regulated environment with recognition of ongoing need to remain current in changes proposed by Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services or other agencies with regulatory oversite.
Proven track record in supporting complex programs within a large health system; working across multi-disciplinary teams to achieve success.
Demonstrated ability in financial reporting and accounting close-cycle processes to deliver financial results in a timely fashion with accompanying variance explanations.
Skills to evaluate third party payor reimbursement in partnership with managed care professionals to support strategic initiatives.
Experience utilizing EPIC electronic health record billing system or other large professional practice EHR preferred.
Undergraduate degree required; Master/CPA preferred.
5 + years in an academic medical center and/or healthcare consulting firm.
Experience beneficial but not required:
Revenue cycle retail pharmacy billing
Clinical experience in hospital, physician office or pharmacy
