The Director of Nursing Education, as part of the nursing management and leadership team, collaborates with all leaders to ensure integration of services at the affiliate level and site-specific level. The position is responsible for the strategic planning and daily operations of the nursing education department and various aspects of professional growth and education for nursing and clinical staff. The Director of Nursing Education is responsible for designing, teaching, evaluating, and executing educational programs for all levels of professional, technical, and ancillary staff in the clinical areas consistent with Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) mission, vision, philosophy, and core values. Programs include the orientation of new employees, in-service education relevant to the clinic environment, and continuing education offerings which are expected to maintain and improve competency and work performance.
The Director of Nursing Education introduces and supports evidenced based practice and clinical quality in the delivery of sexual and reproductive health services across the continuum of care, including abortion and gender affirming health care. In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing Education is jointly responsible for overall management of PPGNY nursing practice, education, and professional development. This position requires travel to other centers when doing site visits and implementation of clinical training for staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory and Administrative (30%)
Oversight of development, implementation, and review processes for staff and patient education as determined by gaps in quality and performance.
Makes recommendations on quality initiatives that align with PPGNY standards and collaborates with the leadership team in development and execution of these action items.
Remains current and knowledgeable of nursing and clinical staff scope of practice, as it relates to state and federal guidelines.
Participates as an executive leader in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental goals, objectives, and overall strategic plan.
Provides effective monitoring and financial management of educational productivity.
Upholds process and guidelines as it relates to 1199 collective bargaining agreements.
Works in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Managers/Nurse Leads in overseeing and managing nursing practice in procedural abortion services and sexual reproductive health services.
Monitors key performance indicators and metrics in relation to nursing quality outcomes.
In collaboration with the leadership team, facilitates implementation of performance enhancements to address Press Ganey patient and employee surveys.
Under direction of Chief Nursing Officer and in collaboration with Human Resources and the Clinical Nurse Manager, supports and drives nursing talent acquisition, professional development, recruitment, and retention.
May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
Required to be on call during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
Consistently meets PPGNY Patient Service and Behavior Standards. Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies, and standards of practice in the areas of Patient Experience, Employee Engagement, ADA, and regulatory compliance.
Training and Education (60%)
In conjunction with the Nurse Manager and the interdisciplinary team, implements and oversees onboarding, training, competency assessment and re assessments for nursing and clinical staff.
Conducts systematic learning needs assessment process, analyzes data/findings and prioritizes developmental planning in accordance with strategic directives.
Coordinates and manages innovation in clinical nursing practice to include nursing care delivery models and achievement of the nursing strategic plan.
Collaborates with the leadership team to assess, teach and coach incumbent and newly hired staff.
Oversees, designs, and facilitates new hire nursing and clinical orientation.
Coaches, mentors, and educates front line staff on care delivery, patient assessment, and evidence-based interventions.
Works with front line staff to ensure that standards of care and organizational policies and procedures are met.
Evaluates staff performance and care delivery by observing staff and by assessing patients and care plans to gain information regarding the care delivery model.
Coordinates with the nursing and medical leadership on all aspects of specific departmental projects and offers guidance and insight for policy creation.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to formulate teaching plans based on individual and departmental needs.
Works collaboratively with nursing leaders to create, implement, and improve programs that respond to new-to-practice nurses.
Utilizes data-based approaches to facilitate innovation and creativity in the development of new initiatives that support ongoing performance improvement and organizational change.
Develops and implements course content and curriculum to train, update skills and knowledge of nursing and clinical staff.
Functions as a nursing education and professional development expert by providing consultative services related to adult learning and educational theory.
Participates in debriefings and Root Cause Analyses and oversees the implementation of corrective action plans specific to nursing.
Participates in leadership and interdisciplinary committees, as needed.
Direct Clinical Care (10%)
Provides clinical support and consultation, as needed, to the Clinical Nurse Manager and clinical staff to support efficient, high-quality, safe, and equitable care.CORE COMPETENCIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Licensures/Certifications:
Current/non-restricted NY licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum, Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN).
Baccalaureate Degree (can be non-nursing)
Required background in Women’s/Maternal Child Health/OB-GYN
Demonstrated skills in leadership, planning, educational development, and evaluation.
Functional expertise in educational program development and translational clinical quality design
