SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Access & Success, the Director will provide visionary leadership, clinical expertise, and administrative oversight for the Counseling Center. This position involves strategic planning, clinical supervision, staff development, crisis intervention, outreach programming, and collaboration with campus constituents. The Director will actively contribute to a respectful and welcoming work environment, advocating for mental health and wellness across the University community.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizes and administers the counseling and outreach services and delivery system.
Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff; trains, and counsels according to established policies and procedures
Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, reporting processes, policies, and operating procedures; conducts needs assessments; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and initiates and stewards changes required for improvement.
Prepares annual budget and approves disbursement of funds.
Gather, interpret, and analyze data from evaluative measures to increase student engagement and guide decision-making. Compile data and write reports to meet compliance, department, division, and institutional needs.
Conducts client staffing and assigns professional staff members to provide treatment and/or referral.
Manages crisis intervention procedures and protocols in close collaboration with the Executive Director, University Police Department, Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students, Residential Living and Learning, and local public health or emergency agencies. Assess and review protocols bi-annually.
Carry a clinical caseload on an as-needed basis. Provide crisis intervention services to drop-in clients, facilitate emergency hospitalizations, and provide consultation services to faculty, staff, and family members (as needed and appropriate).
Develops, with staff member input, short and long term goals.
Provide community intervention programming for various groups, organizations, and departments within the University and engage in university level mental health prevention, intervention and postvention efforts.
Manages the departments' relationships with community service providers including local psychiatric hospitals, emergency rooms, and outpatient crisis services.
Manage the delivery of a training program for masters/doctoral interns and practicum students.
Promotes staff development through in-service training, continuing education, and performance appraisal.
Serves as an active member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and other University task forces and ad hoc committees that address University/disability needs.
Represents the Counseling Center at University functions and engages in special projects as requested.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master's degree in Counseling/Psychology/Social Work or related discipline. Professional licensure in Counseling/Psychology/Social Work or related discipline
Experience: Ten years of related experience in counseling, counseling psychology, or related area involving working directly with students, clients, or patients, providing short-term counseling and outreach.
Knowledge / Skills: Understanding of relevant intervention models, programs and resources. Knowledge of the mental health needs of a university population. Excellent organizational and administrative abilities. Strong work ethic and sense of collegiality. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of student development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Licensure in Texas.

Other Requirements: Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
T erminal degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Medicine with Board Certification in Psychiatry. Direct experience in clinical service delivery in a post-secondary, higher education setting and five (5) years of related experience in leading/directing/supervising in a clinical environment. Demonstrated experience and skills in implementing effective programs, services, and systems that assist individuals who are involved in or impacted by personal crisis, mental health concerns, trauma, and/or other disruptive/disturbing life events with great care and sensitivity; 24 hour on-call experience is notable. Experience participating as a member of multi-disciplinary crisis, care, and/or behavior intervention teams. Experience with the application of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and/or regulations, specifically FERPA, Title IX, HIPAA, Clery, VAWA, and others that are similar and apply to higher education. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Counselors, psychologists, administrative associates, student workers, graduate assistants, interns, and practicum students.
Salary Range:
$80,000-$90,000
