The salary range for this position is $85,000-$118,860, depending on the qualifications and experience the finalist brings to the role. This position will require working evenings and weekends to successfully manage the courses being offered. The Director of Continuing Dental Education (CDE) at the School of Dentistry (SOD) is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the continuing dental education program, including developing courses, securing speakers, both new and returning, establishing and meeting metrics to ensure overall success and positive revenue stream to maintain the program. The Director of Continuing Dental Education reports directly to the Dean. The Director of CDE works closely with organized dentistry, both instate and outstate, to establish a robust and varied speaker pool and program offerings to meet the education needs and interests of practicing dentists and allied health professionals. It is expected that the director will develop new courses, implementing adult learning principles and sound educational standards. The director is expected to possess exceptional people, communication, and leadership skills, which play an important role in maintaining professional and strong relationships with the CDE Advisory Committee, as well as faculty, staff, students, and collaborators across the University and national organizations. RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW Course Planning (25%) Determine annual program goals, objectives and plans. Provide leadership in developing program policies. Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of dental professionals to identify the educational requirements and demands of dental professionals. This also involves gathering input from our 16-person advisory board and stakeholders twice annually, conducting surveys or interviews with learners who have completed offerings, and analyzing industry trends monthly to determine the topics and areas of focus for future programs. Appoint External Advisory Committee members and communicate with the Continuing Dental Education Internal and External Advisory Committees in selecting programs and speakers and in setting program policies and procedures. Communicate with faculty and staff in the selection of program topics and speakers. Represent the Continuing Dental Education Program while attending professional meetings and serving on committees that deal with continuing dental education needs. Other duties as assigned Course Development/Evaluation (25%) Develop and facilitate a diverse curriculum of continuing education courses using adult learning principles and sound educational methods. Communicate with course participants and faculty to resolve concerns about services rendered. Monitor continuing education programs for effectiveness and compliance to Minnesota professional development requirements and national continuing education guidelines and standards. Develop surveys/tools used to assess needs and interests of practicing dentists and allied dental health professionals. Develop evaluation instruments used to assess course content, instructor effectiveness and overall administration. Ensure that appropriate educational objectives are developed for each educational activity. Assure compliance with state and national regulatory agencies such as: ADA CERP, Minnesota Board of Dentistry, American Academy of General Dentistry, Association for Continuing Dental Education, American Dental Hygienists' Association, and the Dental Assistants National Board. Operations (20%) Plan, prioritize, and evaluate the overall continuing dental education budget. Implement sound financial management practices, closely monitoring expenses, optimizing cost- fficiency, and identifying areas for potential savings. Continuously evaluate revenue streams and adjust strategies to reach annual targets. Forecast and evaluate financial impact of coursework. Analyze market demand, competitors' pricing, and value proposition of the program. Set course fees at a competitive yet profitable level. Negotiate honorarium with the speaker, if needed, to offer the course at a reasonable cost . Oversee faculty development and in-service offerings within the School of Dentistry. Act as a principal link between the Dean's Office and program faculty and staff. Engage in grant-writing efforts to request corporate donations for equipment and supplies. Evaluate and report program space/equipment utilization and needs. Conduct market research to identify the target audience. Identify key demographics, preferences, and trends that inform our pricing strategy. Ensure that School of Dentistry and University policies are implemented and followed. Determine the need for appropriate software, hardware, digital and online resources to keep abreast with database, marketing, and public relation needs of the overall program. Oversee the preparation of the annual report of program activities and evaluate the results. Marketing (20%) Determine appropriate promotional strategies for upcoming courses. Develop copy for promotional pieces. Edit prepared copy for promotional pieces. Establish and maintain relationships with past participants. Lead the implementation of effective customer relationship management systems to nurture long-term relationships and encourage word-of-mouth referrals. Supervision (10%) Oversee and supervise program staff activity; conducts annual reviews for program staff. Communicate School of Dentistry and University policies to program staff for implementation. Provide program staff with opportunities for professional growth and development. Assure that the program is in compliance with the University's affirmative action policies, procedures and plan. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in relevant field At least 6 years of experience in educational course development including management experience Outstanding oral and written communication, organizational, team building and interpersonal skills Knowledge of financial management principles including budget development and management Ability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree with a focus in Education 10+ years of successful experience developing continuing professional education courses Experience in continuing professional education dental course development Demonstrated ability to develop and manage relationships effectively with internal and external professionals Evidence of commitment to team-based personnel and program management, with a diverse staff and faculty Experience soliciting corporate sources of funding and/or grant writing.
