  Provides Strategic direction and is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of model governance processes across the model life cycle for all of Discover Financial Services models in compliance with Model Risk Management (MRM) Policy - including model inventory, model risk rating, model certification, annual model review, on-going model performance review and aggregate model risk reporting to the Model Risk Committee.

  Creates a culture of effective risk management, accountability, and demonstration of risk awareness across the organization.

  Responsibilities:

  Oversees the Fair Lending Statistical Analysis program that provides testing and analytical support to manage fair lending risk in close collaboration with Compliance. This involves planning, research, statistical testing, reviewing results with business partners and explaining test outcomes to regulatory bodies (e.g. FDIC, CFPB, etc.).

  Maintains the bank wide model risk policy, standards, and procedures ensuring the capture emerging risk and changes in the internal and external environment. Also ensures and monitors compliance of model developers, owners, users and validators with the policy, standards and procedures. Oversees Model Risk Committee operations.

  Oversees model risk management across the entire model life cycle - development, validation, implementation and retirement, ensuring that adequate controls are in place to manage model risk.

  Manages the annual model reviews and model usage reviews process to ensure models are performing as intended. Oversees the management of model findings, monitoring model owner responses to remedy model deficiencies identified, follows up with model owners regarding remediation status, timelines, and other critical data elements associated with timely remediation and escalation issues as appropriate

  Manages analysts responsible for model inventory and attestation process, model definition, and risk rating. Ensures model inventory is complete, accurate, and consistent with the intent of the Model Governance Policy. Maintains the Model Information Management System (that houses model inventory and data).

  Designs Key Risk Indicators, assesses aggregate model risk and periodically reports risk to Model Risk Committee and ensures emerging risk are addressed.

  Oversee the governance of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools used in the enterprise providing guidance on identification, inventory review and monitoring of these tools to manage the associated risk of bias/discrimination, interpretability, and data privacy. This is achieved through strong collaboration with Compliance and with channel owners – New Initiatives; Third Party Risk Mgmt; among others.

  Proactively maintains effective partnerships with the model validation analysts, model owners, business level risk management teams and auditors, internal and external to execute sound model risk governance and ensure identified issues are resolved in a timely manner. Maintains strong relationships and Interacts with external regulators and internal auditors to demonstrate the operational soundness and effectiveness of model risk management.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or Engineering

  10+ years of Model, Risk Management, Model Governance, Compliance or Related

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Master’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or Engineering

  12+ years of Model, Risk Management, Model Governance, Compliance or Related

  4+ years of people management experience

  4+ years of experience building, testing, implementing and validating complex and sophisticated econometric and statistical models, or related

  Python, SAS, SQL, Tableau preferred

  PMP, FRM preferred

  In Lieu of Education:

  12+ year of experience in Model, Risk Management, Model Governance, Compliance or related including people managementApplication Deadline:

  Compensation:

  The base pay for this position generally ranges between $173,000.00 to $263,400.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
