Job Summary
The Director of the Manufacturing Alliance is the administrative leader responsible for the alliance’s launch and ongoing operations including the establishment of an advisory board, membership structure, business model, outreach and engagement with manufacturers, relationship development with key stakeholders, and communication efforts to elevate alliance successes. In support of a new workforce and economic development initiative to establish an employer-led Manufacturing Alliance focused on increasing the talent pipeline and supporting growth in the local/regional manufacturing sector, the College of Lake County is hiring for an inaugural position to lead the effort.
The Manufacturing Alliance will be influenced and supported through collaborative partnerships between Lake County Workforce Ecosystem organizations, statewide manufacturing associations, national professional associations, local K-12 school districts, and universities. The director will oversee the administration of internal/external funds and complete required activities related to the alliance. This key leader for the college will provide oversight for all alliance programming, develop a sustainable financial model, supervise staff (as the alliance expands), and be responsible for developing consistent practices that align with the College’s mission, strategic plan, administrative practices, and values.
*This is a grant funded position; continued employment in this position is based on external funding sources.
Required Qualification(s)
Bachelor’s degree in business, manufacturing, sales, or related field; OR, associate’s degree in business, manufacturing, sales, or related field
A minimum of twelve (12) years professional experience
At least ten (10) years of senior leadership experience
A minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience.
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
Effective written and oral communications skills
Experience managing budgets
Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Pay Rate (85,000 - $100,000) Salary offer in this range will be commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience.

Work Schedule
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekends, early mornings and nights as necessary. Local and regional travel required on a regular basis.

Summary of Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership and Planning (40%)
Develop and implement a comprehensive membership management strategy to attract and retain diverse stakeholders, including manufacturers, local businesses, vendors, professional associations, community organizations, and other relevant organizations in support of the Alliance’s goals.
Coordinate with Educational Affairs, Community and Workforce Partnerships, and Foundation team members to launch programs, monitor progress, and develop resources.
Facilitate strategic planning between industry and education to develop short- and long-term solutions to meet the workforce needs of the regional manufacturing sector.
Recommend innovative and effective opportunities for public and private employers to pool resources to achieve project goals and objectives.
Initiate public relations and marketing campaigns to generate publicity and interest in projects and alliances. Maintain websites for alliance organizations.
Collaborate with the Foundation and the office of Resource Development to write grants and participate in the cultivation of major gifts.
Develop a sustainable financial plan and business model that will make it possible for 100% of the Alliance’s annual costs to be met by earned revenue by 2029.
Position the College of Lake County for accelerated growth by building short and long-term strategies with industry partners that support the College’s mission and strategic plan.
Project Management (15%)
Serve as the project lead during the design and launch of the Alliance.
Ensure that all projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Develop detailed project and program plans, and track progress.
Operations Management (40%)
Research industry and organizational trends to structure programs and initiatives to meet manufacturers’ needs.
Design, coordinate, and implement collaborative projects to create initiatives to improve economic and workforce development within the manufacturing sector.
Develop and maintain the Alliance’s budget. Establish earned income streams for sustainability beyond the launch phase of the Alliance.
Regularly communicate with alliance members to understand their needs, expectations, and feedback
Facilitate member engagement through networking events, workshops, and forums that promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Maintain an up-to-date membership database, ensuring accurate records of member information, dues, and engagement levels. Foster an environment to positively influence the performance and accountability of project team members.
Monitor member satisfaction and proactively address any concerns or issues to ensure a positive member experience.
Collaborate with CLC staff and faculty to ensure consistency and efficiency of program administration. Communicate with administrators, staff, faculty, external stakeholders, and various agencies as needed to coordinate activities and programs, resolve challenges, and support positive relationships.
Ensure alignment to services, programs, and product development within the college’s mission and strategic plan.
Demonstrate solid commitment to CLC values, goals, and equity outcomes.
Manage membership dues and contributions, ensuring financial sustainability.
Other Duties (5%)
Attend, conduct, and participate in meetings, seminars, committees, and conferences.
Perform other duties as required.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Assure proper internal controls within all levels of the division or department, establish and utilize monitoring mechanisms and assure regular training of managers/supervisors and staff.

Assure proper internal controls are in place, monitor and train staff. Accountable for maintenance of departmental records per federal, state and College of Lake County standards.

Foster positive employee relations, assuring this is cascaded throughout all levels of managers and supervisors within the division and/or department, and that includes regular employee feedback, recognition and progressive discipline where needed. Assure timely and consistent performance evaluation processes are followed at all levels within the division or department.
Support the growth and development of personnel within the division and/or department, assuring this support is cascaded throughout all levels of managers and supervisors within the division/department.
Exercise appropriate discretion and judgment; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and documents. Avoid conflicts of interest. Report issues as they arise.
Participate in Shared Governance; serve on institutional level councils, commissions and/or committees. Foster the encouragement of employees at all levels within the division/department to participate in committees, councils, commissions and/or projects.
