  This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to play a critical role in owning and optimizing all revenue processes in GBT’s Controllership organization. Director - Global Revenue Recognition will report to Senior Director – Controller and will have a team of 1-2 individuals. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and lead other team members as we continue to scale. This role will ideally be based in Toronto, Canada but can be remotely based in Canada or US.   This is a newly created role to ensure GBT’s Revenue recognition is in compliance with US GAAP (ASC 606) requirements as well as ensuring compliance with SOX 404 requirements in relation to revenue recognition control framework. This is a critical role that requires dealing with senior leaders across commercial, operations, legal, and finance teams by providing technical revenue recognition expertise on both day to day and sophisticated matters including optimal deal structuring and revenue modeling.

  Job Responsibilities:

  Accounting policy: Maintain Revenue Recognition accounting policies for GBT in conformity with US GAAP and ensure ongoing compliance. Stay up to date with any Revenue Accounting changes and its impact to the company and industry.

  Governance and support: Establish governance and oversight over accounting teams for compliance with revenue recognition policies, procedures and reporting in conformity with current FASB and SEC guidance to ensure assurance of accurate and timely results in collaboration with operational accounting teams.

  Support activities include:

  Review of revenue related journal entries (primarily non-recurring), key balance sheet reconciliations (primarily involving estimates or assumptions) and variance commentary as part of monthly/ quarterly close activities.

  Identify and assess non-GAAP policies impacts e.g. gross-to-net accounting, refund obligation for cancellations and costs to obtain contracts.

  Supervise accrual assumptions or models underlying Supplier revenue accounting for monthly and quarterly revenue in coordination FP&A teams.

  Review of estimates & judgements including applying appropriate methodologies and calculations related to revenue recognition ensuring compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and controls.

  Providing advice and assistance to business partners with questions related to revenue recognition accounting

  SOX compliance: Responsible for SOX 404 compliance

  Design and implementation of internal controls related to global revenue processes including but not limited to reviewing process narratives, ensuring operating effectiveness of revenue controls for all streams.

  Lead/assist in walkthroughs and testing of controls by both external auditors and our internal audit firm, including preparation of support for all requests.

  Assist with remediation of SOX observations and simplifying the SOX control framework for Revenue recognition.

  Stakeholder Management:

  Act as the strategic partner to finance leadership in driving & streamlining operational improvements within revenue recognition close process.

  Support FP&A and Order to Cash/Supplier or M&E accounting teams in ensuring accounting as per ASC 606

  Work with Pricing, Legal, Technology, operational accounting & shared services O2C teams to enable revenue recognition control framework.

  Technical accounting advisory: Perform technical accounting research as needed and prepare memos documenting conclusions and proper accounting treatment. Act as the Subject Matter Authority on revenue accounting providing guidance on technical accounting, policy and process changes while ensuring accounting compliance.

  Audit assistance: Act as a liaison for external auditors for accounting and reporting matters related to Revenue recognition, as needed. including alignment on revenue positions and accounting treatments

  Contract and contract modification reviews: Review contracts with customers for non-standard treatments or modifications across multiple revenue streams and review/approve technical checklists to ensure accounting assessment in accordance with US GAAP 606.

  Deal structuring & M&A support: Provide support to commercial teams for optimal deal structuring and revenue modeling as well as vital support for revenue recognition for any M&A integration.

  Financial reporting: Review and update the financial Statement disclosures related to revenue recognition for quarterly and annual financial documents as per US GAAP and SEC requirements.

  Technology and enhancements: Continuously review and optimize revenue accounting processes and drive automation initiatives by optimizing existing systems or implement new recognition software to achieve higher level of revenue recognition assurance, efficiency and accuracy in revenue recognition. Providing ad hoc reporting, analysis, or assistance in other projects as needed as part of the larger Controllership organization.

  Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; US CPA required.

  10+ years of combined experience in both public accounting and/or leading a Revenue Accounting function.

  5+ years' experience with SOX controls specifically related to US GAAP ASC 606 and direct experience with ASC 606 associated with revenue from contracts with customers. Relevant activities include detailing accounting conclusions on new or modified customer contracts (such as through accounting position papers); completion of revenue analysis and commentary formulation such as that provided to executive leadership for decision-making purposes; and/or financial statement disclosure preparation and reviews.

  Previous experience in Big 4 firm and Experience in a similar role in a publicly traded, multinational company with international operations.

  In-depth knowledge of revenue recognition principles (ASC 606) and related technical accounting standards

  Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects while meeting goals and deadlines.

  Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functional units and levels within the organization.

  Strong financial and analytical skills including substantial experience with accounting principles and financial statement analysis.

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate sophisticated financial information to partners at all levels of the organization.

  Continuous improvement approach with a proven ability to implement operational improvements.

  Strong accounting and financial competence with excellent communication skills.

  Experience using accounting and reporting software (NetSuite and Blackline, preferred). Revenue recognition software implementation experience will be desirable.

  Experience with M&A integration support for Revenue recognition will be an advantage.

  Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

  Professional demeanor with ability to interact with all levels of management.
