  Job Type: Officer of AdministrationRegular/Temporary: RegularHours Per Week: 35Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

  Position Summary

  The Director leads in setting the high-level strategy for career management services and employer relations, overseeing individualized career support, cultivating relationships with potential employers to help establish a recruiting pipeline, and developing programming that supports Climate School students and alumni as they explore career paths and prepare for work or continuing education. Initially, this position will support students and alumni from the MA in Climate and Society program; the role is expected to expand and adapt to support other education programs at the Climate School as the degree and certificate portfolio grows. The Director will work under the supervision of the Senior Director, Academic Initiatives, and will supervise full-time staff and casual employees.

  This person will be part of a dynamic student services unit within the Columbia Climate School. Within that context, this person will dedicate a moderate portion of their time and focus on other student services related programming and support services as the school evolves and grows.

  Responsibilities

  The Director leads in the development of career management services and employer relations. They manage the delivery of programming and services related to career planning and job search issues. The incumbent will: Meet with Climate School students to understand their needs and aspirations;Provide direction for individualized career search process and train staff to provide additional support in this area as the student body grows; provide resume and cover letter review and editing;Develop and lead a variety of group events on career management topics, including workshops on interviewing, writing effective resumes and cover letters, and pursuing internship opportunities;Conduct interview preparation and coaching;Coordinate access to other resources within the University. They will organize internal events such as company information sessions and on-campus interviews, and may attend external events and conferences.The Director will be responsible for refining and operationalizing the processes and practices that govern career management services.They will utilize systems (e.g. CRM, Symplicity, 12Twenty) to manage, track and report on employer and student engagement and outcomes.Oversee the job search tools within these systems, communicate job listings to current students and alumni, and develop new resources as needed (e.g., career handbooks, overview of career outcomes, and career resource databases).Develop communications and surveys for students, alumni and employer networks, and uses findings to inform strategy.They will liaise with other key University partners as needed to leverage connections between complementary initiatives. The work will encompass coordination on aspects of the Climate School's professional development and co-curricular programming with partner programs (All Ivy Career Fair, Careers Reception, etc.). The Director will oversee the capstone project selection process, linking employer opportunities to the summer course.Liaise with the capstone coordinator and instructors as needed, to help balance meeting student needs with administrative timelines and processes.Supervise staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality programming aimed at engaging employers and creating placement opportunities for students.They will direct staff in the research and development of programming and job search strategies for students seeking career advancement or change; and remain able and available to advise students and alumni as needed.Other duties as assigned. This person will dedicate a moderate portion of their time and focus on other student services related programming and support services as the school evolves and grows.Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience,Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsHighly effective organizational skillsStrong ability to lead career-related workshopsMust be tactful, flexible and able to interact with all levels of the school administration and outside employersStrong computer and career services database skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, required.Demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, implement and evaluate multiple projects and activities with varied deadlines.Ability to analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate decisions/recommendations.Strong quantitative skills with the ability to use financial and other databases.Preparation and analysis of operating budgets.The candidate will have a strategic, forward-thinking orientation.Preferred Qualifications

  Master's degree preferred
