JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Adult Behavioral Services will function as the clinical and administrative leader of the Adult Psychiatric Unit and the Adult Substance Use Disorders Unit.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience:
Masters required (or in process)
National Certification in specialty required (or in process)
Minimum of 5 years Nursing Leadership Experience required
Current State of Maine RN Licensure required
Advanced CPI training required
BCLS required
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
24/7 accountability for all services/care provided in the department
Managing all aspects of staffing including recruitment, development and retention of highly qualified staff
Cultivating a positive work environment that supports teamwork
Monitoring the job performance of each employee and conducts annual performance appraisals, on time 100%
Facilitating orientation and in-service training to promote professional growth
Giving frequent constructive feedback
Assuring staff input into staffing plan on annual basis
Maintaining turnover rate below national benchmarks
Developing an environment that welcomes and supports students (nursing, medical, social work students, etc.)
Incorporating clinical judgement when scheduling personnel as indicated by flexible staffing model
Aligning employees with the organization’s strategic and operational objectives
Assuring that care and clinical outcomes align with evidence-based practice
Adopting new approaches when circumstances demand it
Taking a strategic approach to setting priorities based on identified problems and opportunities
Engaging the interdisciplinary team in program development and improvement
Identifying emerging needs and acting proactively to address them
Achieving annual budgetary goals, with emphasis on efficient use of personnel and resources.
Assuming fiscal accountability including consistently staffing to identified productivity benchmarks and addressing variances
Maintaining records, reports and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes
Maintaining equipment, reporting/resolving problems promptly
Partnering with colleagues to help manage patients with behavioral issues in all areas of the hospital
Participating in nursing and organizational policy formation and decision -making
Actively participating in community health education or boards/advisory committees as part of the social accountability program
