JOB REQUIREMENTS: We have an immediate opening for a Full-Time andPart-Time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work one-on-one withindividuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities in their homes andin the community. The DSP provides individualized, person-centeredsupport and works towards goals that focus on helping the participantbecome as independent as possible. For example, a DSP might work with aparticipant on making a healthy snack, learning to counting money, orsafe internet use. This position will also teach or assist in teachingthe various classes we offer throughout the week and occasionalweekends. Flexibility to work daytime and late afternoon/early eveninghours is required. Occasional Weekend (hours may also be required. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Meet with the ProgramCoordinator and the family to determine individual goals Consistentlymodel appropriate social skills Support participant by practicing,modeling and guiding them through real life experiences Research andhave the ability to create necessary accommodations for life skillsincluding: personal hygiene, meal planning and prep, home upkeep, moneymanagement and technology Maintain and model positive professionalworking relationships with participants, guardians, employers, and othersignificant persons in their lives Provide family education toparticipant\'s family members and other natural supports Advocate forparticipants as needed and teach advocacy skills Attend requiredmeetings and in-service training sessions Monitor participant\'s goalsand complete progress notes as needed Other duties as assigned Prepareand maintain records of client progress and services performed,reporting changes in client condition to manager or supervisor.Participate in case reviews, consulting with the team caring for theclient, to evaluate the client\'s needs and plan for continuingservices. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: MinimumQualifications Interpersonal Must be a sensitive and mature individualwho is able to relate well to both children and adults Demonstrateswarmth, insight, interest, and respect for people with disabilitiesWillingness to accept flexibility with their schedule Able andknowledgeable to cope with emergency situations or behavioral situationsin a calm and effective manner Able and willing to be a team player andto work cooperatively with their supervisor Able to communicateeffectively with clients and their families Physical and EnvironmentalRequirements While performing the duties of this job, the Direct SupportProfessional will be required to use hands and fingers to handle orfeel; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear clearly.
