　　SUMMARY OF POSITION:

　　The Dietitian - Outpatient role provides individual and group evidence-based nutrition therapy for referred outpatients that meets the standards and scope of practice as stated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This position works within an outpatient setting.

　　MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

　　Bachelor’s degree required.

　　Completion of required dietetics and supervised practice through a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship or a Coordinated Program in Dietetics Accredited by ACEND or Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP).

　　Maintain RDN credential and license for state practicing.

　　JOB REQUIREMENTS:

　　Assesses individual needs through synthesis of information obtained through the assessment interview, food and nutrition and related histories, review of the medical record, and discussion with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team as needed.

　　Develops a plan to meet assessed needs including recommendations regarding: the composition of diet and meal patterns and supplements; and the volume, rate, of enteral feedings.

　　Documents initial assessment plans for nutritional care and progress relative to same in the medical record in accordance with established standards.

　　Counsels individuals, families, and care provider on normal nutrition and therapeutic diets with consideration given to the individual's educational, cultural, and socioeconomic background.

　　Conducts group classes for individuals for nutrition as appropriate.

　　Creates, evaluates, reviews, and revises patient instruction materials.

　　Plans and participates in National Nutrition Month activities.

　　Participates in continuing educational activities to maintain current skills and information and as per license requirements.
