  The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency’s mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency.

  Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

  North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

  THIS IS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY.

  This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve asDietitian. T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

  Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  The incumbent of this position is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing individualized nutritional care for all residents in the facility. The incumbent must spend at least 75% of his or her time performing duties which involve contact with patients in a forensic facility or institution.

  Provides nutritional counseling, monitoring, maintenance, education, and documentation as appropriate to all residents on special diets and with nutrition-related medical concerns. Face to Face patient contact required.

  Responsible for monitoring weights on all residents at least once a month or more frequently as needed. Also provides counseling and diet referrals to MD as needed. Face to Face patient contact required.

  Performs complete nutritional assessments with documentation, circumstances allowing, within two weeks from arrival at the Center and annually thereafter. Face to Face patient contact required.

  Serves as dietary liaison with building staff, residents, clinic staff, canteen, and food service. Face to Face patient contact required.

  Accepts referrals of Health Coordinator, MD and Counselors for dietary counseling and monitoring. Face to Face patient contact required.

  Maintains records and reports or work performed.

  Performs other related duties as required to provide a comprehensive nutritional program for all residents.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  Knowledge of the concepts and theories of dietetics or food and nutrition.

  Knowledge of nutrition as it relates to growth, development and disease.

  Knowledge of nutritional assessment techniques.

  Ability to provide nutrition education to others.

  Ability to plan menus.

  Ability to prepare food specifications.

  Ability to calculate food costs.

  Ability to analyze food production methods for efficiency and sanitary practices.

  Ability to prepare and maintain records.

  Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  Ability to communicate effectively.

  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Registration as a dietitian defined by the American Dietetic Association; or

  A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetics or food and nutrition.
