  We are looking for a highly motivated leader to serve as Deputy Director of Special Education. This position will provide leadership and oversight of the programmatic areas in the Special Education Division.

  **Experience in PK-12 special education required.

  Responsibilities Include -

  In cooperation with the Director and Division Directors direct and evaluate special education service delivery programs, including but not limited to, finance, data management, evaluation and eligibility (i.e., Child Find) and special education delivery to districts and schools.

  Administer, supervise and provide leadership for the Division of Special Education. Provide guidance, coordination and oversight for federal and state programs related to IDEA, including finance, data management, evaluation and eligibility and service delivery. Work in cooperation with the Director, Division Directors and Division Bureau Chiefs to direct and evaluate programs provided to districts, schools and Area Education Agencies.

  Collaborate with other state agencies, postsecondary institutions, and professional organizations on initiatives and mutual concerns that will directly impact special education delivery.

  Represent the Department of Education with various constituencies as requested by the Director. Provide information and facilitate communication between the constituencies and the Department as it relates to special education.

  Advise the Director on actions and needs of the Division of Special Education and its work.

  This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Education. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

  Minimum Qualification Requirements

  Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in education or public administration, and experience equal to five years of full-time work in teaching or educational administration.

  A total of nine years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in education or public administration equals one year of full-time experience.
