  Primary Duties: The Division seeks attorneys to provide legal counsel to state agencies and state elected officials on matters such as contracts, human resources, education, or general administrative law. Attorneys in the Division’s central office practice as part of a team of attorneys and support staff. While attorneys are the primary contact for all legal issues faced by client agencies, they may assist or receive assistance from their team on complex matters or business transactions for the State. Attorneys also provide legal analysis, written opinions, and advice to state agencies and officials on a project basis.

  Attorneys use and develop expertise in a variety of legal practice areas including:

  • Business transactions, such as real estate, procurement, information technology acquisition, and general contracting matters;

  • Statutory and administrative rule drafting, interpretation and application;

  • Administrative law matters, such as regulatory enforcement and administrative hearings; and

  • General government matters, such as public records and open meeting law issues.

  Attorneys develop specific subject matter expertise while advising assigned clients, however, such expertise is not required of applicants prior to assignment of a client agency. Practice in the central office allows attorneys to both work independently and practice as part of a larger team of the Office of the Attorney General. The team provides substantive support and collegiality.
