  The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for Chair of the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences ( ).

  The Chair will lead a highly successful department with faculty in Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Ambulatory and Production Medicine, Shelter Medicine, Wildlife Health & Health Policy, Public Health, and the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) with its comprehensive portfolio of a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory. The mission of the department is to promote the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and free-ranging wildlife populations, to ensure the safety of foods of animal origin, and to prevent animal disease with its associated risks to human health and to prepare students and post-graduate trainees for careers in these areas.

  The college seeks a dynamic individual to lead the department in all aspects of academic activity, including stewardship of resources and personnel. In collaboration with the faculty, the Chair fosters excellence in teaching, research, and clinical and diagnostic services, for the advancement of animal and human health. The Chair provides oversight for the recruitment, retention and professional development of departmental faculty and staff and works closely with the Executive Director of the AHDC and the Director of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals to coordinate department, clinical, and diagnostic laboratory functions. The Chair, furthermore, is expected to pursue scholarly activities in their area of expertise.

  Applicants will have a veterinary degree, and/or have a PhD in a discipline relevant to department interests. Individuals with an MD or other health profession degree and experience in disciplines relevant to the department are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a record of leadership, active participation in academic activities, and evidence of balance and excellence in teaching, research and/or clinical and diagnostic activities sufficient to qualify for a tenured academic appointment in the department.
