Employees in this position handle packages, mail, equipment, gas cylinders and numerous other items both for initial delivery and as returns for credit. This position also supports the vendor managed inventory function and accounts for all merchandise handled utilizing scanning technology and signature proof of delivery on systems and manifests. This position serves as a first line of contact and service to customers of the department of U Market Services. Responsibilities These examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this work and do not limit the assignment of related and in classification duties in any position of this classification. Responsibilities for this appointment generally include any the following: Operates medium or light trucks, vans and passenger vehicles equipped with communication devices, power tailgate, or other materials handling equipment. Provides desk-top delivery of packages, equipment, supplies, mail and all other assigned materials. May transport employees and/or visitors in the course of assisting with University business. Provides necessary support including follow-up on customer service issues and any supervisor inquiries. Provides the delivery and replenishment function for the vendor managed inventory service named "Par Level" by U Market Services. Completes pick-ups and returns in a timely manner and helps maintain records to support and document the process. Scans packages and obtains signatures for delivery manifests. Assures that proof of delivery records are maintained on each completed delivery. Conducts safety, maintenance and visual inspections of any assigned vehicle, acting upon or reporting any significant actionable needs to a direct supervisor. Maintains vehicles in clean and orderly condition. Essential Functions of the Position Provides regular, reliable and efficient delivery of materials. Safely operates all materials handling equipment and vehicles necessary to complete tasks. Provides a high level of customer service and positively contributes to the image of and the services rendered by the department. Work Environment Work in this classification can include both inside and outside environments. Inside work includes mainly warehouse environments but can also include office, classroom, laboratory and custodial closet locations. Outside work includes loading/unloading vehicle, driving, and can include exposure to varied weather environments. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Must have a minimum of one year (2088 hours) of professional driving experience such as augmentation to DSD, or pay for driving vehicles such as a bus, truck or delivery vehicle. A class D Minnesota Driver's License is required. A class B license with CDL, Haz Mat and/or Air Brake endorsements may be required for some functions within this classification. Employees must have no chargeable driving offenses on record, within the 12 months preceding employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: Knowledge of Minnesota and University vehicle rules are requirements for the position. Safe handling practices and efficient delivery methods are also expected in this position. Skills: Due to the highly congested nature of the campus and large student, staff and faculty population, safe driving skills are critical. Excellent communication and customer service skills are also required. Abilities: Ability to operate all proof of delivery technology and to safely operate all vehicles and material handling equipment covered under this classification. Ability to op rate handheld package tracking technology associated with the function.
