  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:1. Completion of CT training program.2. Registered or registry eligible as a CT(ASCP)3. Current PA State License is required

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:1.Prefer previous experience and satisfactory completion of required CMS PAP Proficiency Testing.EXPERIENCE:1. Prefer experience with involvement with CLIA and CAP checklist(s) standards and compliance2. Prefer previous experience in a similar/hospital setting

  CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.They are not intended to be constructed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties.Other duties may be assigned.

  Assess specimens for suitability as indicated in procedure manual prior to processing.Logs specimens according to log book procedure.Prepares specimen aliquot and centrifuges per standard.Performs special staining as outlined in procedure manual.Delivers slides to pathologists for microscopic viewing per standard.Examines stained specimens - non gynecological and gynecological - microscopically for abnormal cell presence, fungal structures, bacteria, viruses and/or parasites.Screens no more than 100 slides per day to avoid fatigue/inaccuracy in the screening process.Interprets within a reasonable range with pathologists' interpretation. That is, a cytotechnologist cannot consistently interpret the stain dissimilarly form the reporting pathologist.Documents findings on a review of slides and presents the completed descriptive written report*oheach specimen to the pathologist.Assists the radiologist and other physicians in procuring specimens from fine needle aspirations.Prepares slides and the biopsy specimens from fine needle aspirates as indicated in the procedure manual.Evaluates slide microscopically for specimen adequacy.Stains slides according to procedure.Coverslips slides accurately and according to procedure.Assigns specimens an accession number and logs in the current systemsPlaces accession numbers on the specimen slide. Corresponding number is logged and recorded in accession log system.Operates centrifuges, cytospin, coverslipper and PAP processing equipment according to policy and procedure.Follows maintenance protocols for all equipment used and documents all maintenance, service and repair of equipment.Performs, evaluate and documents quality control procedures as outlined in the procedure manualIdentifies low volume of supplies.Assures sufficient supply inventory for test performance as not to jeopardize patient care.Attends laboratory meetings on a regular basis.Assists with educating students as required.Identifies problems and communicates to the manager and/or supervisor.Maintains the Quality Assurance program as outlined in the cytology procedure manual.Reviews the CAP CYTOPATHOLOGY checklist annually and identifies and corrects any deficiencies.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are repres ntative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.Visual acuity must not be impaired.   Must be able to tolerate noisy environment.Must be able to tolerate foul or unpleasant odors.Must be able to perform procedures and operate instrumentation while wearing protective apparel.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  Must be able to use numerous types of laboratory equipment.Must be familiar with and able to use various types of office equipment and computer devices.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:1. Certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent agency as a Cytotechnologist.2. Licensed by the state of West Virginia within 6 months of employment.

  Perform and analyze according to SOP, basic and complex diagnostic procedures designed to produce accurate reproducible results to meet the needs of patients, as requested by the physician.Assist Physicians with FNA specimen adequacy determination during patient procedures.Prepare, reagent, and solution correctly and accurately to complete necessary testing/requests according to the SOP.Restock the work area and FNA carts of needed supplies to assist co-workers in the performance of their duties.Prepare and accession patient specimens, accepting only patient specimens for testing that are properly collected and labeled. Evaluate sufficiency of patient information given with specimens and resolve issues with specimen collection and specimen orders in accordance with established laboratory policiesPerform required quality assurance and control procedures on a predetermined schedule to ascertain the reliability of reagents and laboratory equipment/instrumentation resulting in timely accurate reproducible test results to ensure qualityPerform required troubleshooting and subsequent appropriate problem resolution, in a timely manner (e.g., review of the QC records).Participate, as required, in proficiency testing/interpretation/reporting using established procedures and resulting in a satisfactory report.9 Promptly verify, abnormal/panic results and notifies, as required per SOP, patient care unit and/or physician with full documentation of steps taken.10 Participate in the educational endeavors of the institution to meet the current and future needs of the hospital.Participate, as required, in the training, supervision and evaluation of new employees, as established by laboratory policies (e.g., section...
