  JOB DESCRIPTION:

  Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Technician will support cross-disciplinary radiopharmaceutical research at the HRSB II production facility.

  This role will be responsible for service and maintenance on the GE PETtrace cyclotron, CRL manipulator arms and radiochemistry synthesis units.

  The position requires operation of the cyclotron in support of radiochemistry and radiopharmacy production for Research studies at Emory.

  The role will require developing SOPs for operation and maintenance of the cyclotron and production equipment.

  The position will require working closely with the PET and Radiochemistry director, Radiochemists, and the Radiopharmacy team.

  Key Responsibilities:

  Follows a schedule for isotope production on the cyclotron depending upon need and priority.

  Works in compliance with all regulatory standards including EH&S, Radiation Safety, applicable pharmacy laws (e.g., USP chapters 823 & 825 for research production under RDRC, eIND, IND for human patients), DOT, and internal policies and interpretations of the above as required.

  Incorporates new technology, products and processes into daily operations.

  Works cross-functionally with production team to successfully implement strategic initiatives.

  Provides service and maintenance for the cyclotron and associated chemistry modules as assigned.

  Prepares budget and monitors and operational performance.

  Schedules work and manages spare parts usage to minimize costs and maximize effectiveness.

  Monitors and improves Up Time for site cyclotron and chemistry systems.

  Participates in routine biomarker production as needed.

  Participating in project planning and developing, implementing and evaluating research protocols, techniques and procedures.

  Performs a wide range of laboratory tests, and experimental procedures for routine and specialized studies.

  Selects or develops effective research methodologies for the Cyclotron.

  Works independently to accomplish assigned tasks and responsibilities.

  This role may require flexibility to work alternative shifts as needed.

  This position will hold the primary responsibility for daily production runs on the GE PETrace cyclotron.

  In addition, the position will be responsible for conducting level I maintenance procedures on the cyclotron (in compliance with the GE contract) and understanding when GE service needs to be called for level II service.

  In addition, the position will be responsible for maintenance on the CRL manipulator arms and radiochemistry synthesis units and determining when a service calls need to be placed.

  Attends GE cyclotron and radiochemistry synthesis system training as well as continued training and refresher training as available and necessary.

  The position will also require participation in the radiochemistry synthesis unit production, and training of personnel to operate the synthesis units.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Nuclear/Electrical Engineering

  4+ years of experience in a radiochemistry lab or cyclotron facility.

  Familiar with ALARA principle and be comfortable and competent working around and with radiation and radioactive materials.

  Working knowledge of the PET radioisotope production workflow.

  Experience operating Radiochemistry synthesis units and experience working in ISO cleanroom environments

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Physics.NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
