Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. We are looking for a Critical Infrastructure (CI) Tooling Engineer to help perform key delivery of our core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including the Microsoft Azure platform, Microsoft 365, Xbox, OneDrive and more. As a Critical Infrastructure (CI) Tooling Engineer , you will be part of a team that is responsible for providing the foundational tools, processes and artifacts required to engineer & operate the CI across our unified global datacenters. Within CI, we emphasize automation, data driven engineering, cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability. You will join a team of Service Engineers who are passionate about designing, building, and operating the world's most advanced infrastructures. You will work on cutting-edge technologies and projects that enable Microsoft to deliver innovative solutions and services to our customers. Responsibilities
Technical Knowledge and Expertise
Support infrastructure IT teams with foundational custom tools, documented processes and integration components enabling them to be successful in delivering available and scalable solutions by leveraging modern DevOps tools and processes in a data driven environment where extensive reliance on proactivity, continuous improvement, consensus building, curiosity, skill upleveling, defining metrics & KPIs, succinct documentation, interpersonal awareness, proactivity, and an ability to manage and drive delivery of multiple simultaneous cross-group projects is required.
Own a transparent, iterative and collaborative service design & implementation process by driving efforts within the organization to identify, define, recommend, and build optimal requirement-driven solutions with considerations for cost management.
Operational Excellence
Independently implement and maintain proactive, reliable, scalable, and performant solutions delighting partner teams with a data driven approach to continuously improve solutions against evolving requirements while owning design, implementation, adoption, change and rollback planning and related consensus building & maintenance.
Adhere to prescriptive guidance for security, privacy, and compliance standards in alignment with direction from the business and technical experts by working with security, privacy, and compliance teams to identify and proactively address relevant issues identifying automation opportunities and assisting to other CI Engineers as needed.
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
Collaborate within and across teams by proactively and systematically sharing information with an appropriate level of detail while overcoming obstacles by resolving conflicts and issues across interdependent teams engaging with partners and stakeholders so issues can be resolved and mutual objectives are met.
Share insights and best practices that can be applied to improve the organization across related infrastructure solutions continuing to develop solution-space insights and best practices through interactions with members of partner teams, product engineering teams and other resources (e.g., brown bags, wikis, documentation). Mentor and coach other engineers to help them identify and propose relevant solutions.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell in a DevOps environment
OR equivalent experience.
1+ years direct design and/or operational responsibility for networking and/or server infrastructure such as Cisco/IOS/NX-OS, Palo Alto, Dell/HPE, Windows Server or Linux.
1+ years designing and/or operating large-scale hybrid cloud/on-prem infrastructures.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

Service Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
