  Position Details

  General Statement

  Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.

  Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

  The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.

  Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.

  We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.

  Duties and Responsibilities

  We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.

  Responsibilities may include:

  Teaching on-campus or online courses

  Advising, evaluating and assisting students and/or

  Curriculum and/or course development

  Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  Master’s degree or terminal degree in appropriate field with an academic background commensurate with teaching one or more of the specialty areas listed above.

  Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  Academic/professional experience.

  Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses

  Demonstrated knowledge of college student development

  Promote the advancement of diversity OR demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity.

  The Successful Candidate Will

  Possess effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  Contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.

  Have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add intellectual diversity to the department

  Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

  The position for which you have applied MAY BE a Union position. Union affiliation is determined by job duties and the collective bargaining unit.

  Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University ( AFMSU ). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues. This is a condition of employment.   Any position less than .5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues.

  If the FTE changes during employment, the representational status of this position could be impacted.

  The Department

  The Department of Counseling at Montana State University is located in the College of Education, Health and Human Development ( EHHD ). The departmental mission is to prepare interpersonally skilled and culturally attuned professional counselors who facilitate the psychological growth and wellbeing of those they serve.

  Highlights for the Department of Counseling include:

  A robust training program for rural counseling through the RMHP3 and RMHP4 programs. We train graduate students in our accredited program to counsel adults, children, and families in rural schools and communities. https://www.montana.edu/crre/ruralmentalhealthpathways/index.html

  Faculty foster community partnerships like the Building Good Neighbors program through the Gallatin County Detention Center and Living Well in Later Years in partnership with local assisted living centers.

  The Human Development Clinic is a fully functional low-cost sliding scale community counseling clinic serving the Gallatin Valley. https://www.montana.edu/hhd/humandevelopmentclinic.html

  The College

  The College of Education, Health and Human Development ( EHHD ) (https://www.montana.edu/ehhd/) , the third largest college at Montana State University (https://www.montana.edu/) , serves over 2000 students and employs over 50 full time tenure track faculty. EHHD consists of four academic units: Counseling; Education; Food Systems, Nutrition & Kinesiology; and Human Development & Community Health. (https://www.montana.edu/hhd/index.html)

  The College of Education, Health and Human Development is home to a wide variety of programs that fulfill Montana’s land grant mission of providing services to the people of Montana and beyond.

  We train teachers for elementary and secondary classrooms.

  We help soldiers and other professionals become teachers.

  We partner with leaders on Native American reservations to develop ways to lead healthy lifestyles and improve education for children and adults.

  We educate families on how to make healthy nutrition and physical activities choices.
