Correctional Officer - Adult Corrections Facility Salary See Position Description Job Number 23DOCCR520FM250 Closing Date Continuous Description The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) seeks Correctional Officers at the Adult Corrections Facility (ACF) to promote public safety and provide for victim restoration by holding offenders accountable and providing opportunities for change through assessment and supervision. The ACF is a confinement center for adult offenders committed by the courts to serve a maximum sentence of one year. Salary will be based upon the qualifications of the applicants and is negotiable within the targeted salary range for this position. Targeted starting salary range: $62,982.40 - $82,459.41 Annually Full salary range: $54,547.51 - $82,459.41 Annually Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Location and hours: This position is located at the Adult Corrections Facility at 1145 Shenandoah Lane, Plymouth, MN 55447. The ACF is a medium level security facility, it is located 13 miles from downtown Minneapolis, and there is no public transportation to this facility. Based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. Candidates must be available to work various 12-hour shifts, which includes day, evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend hours. Anyone indicating limited availability will not be considered. A shift differential of $1.00 per hour will be paid for nights and weekends. Meals are provided and a uniform allowance is given for qualifying positions. About the position type: This posting will be used to fill current and future full-time, part-time, permanent, Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ), and limited duration (temporary) Correctional Officer vacancies at the Adult Corrections Facility (ACF). To remain in compliance with OSHA safety requirements, candidates hired into Correctional Officer positions are required to pass an initial fit test for the use of a respirator and then pass a fit test annually during employment. Fit testing for respirator use is a safety qualification of the job. In order to meet this job qualification, Correctional Officers must be able to comply with facial hair styles that do not interfere with the proper use and fit of a respirator (e.g., clean shaven). In this position, you will: Maintain a safe institution for staff and residents by building relationships, employing de-escalation techniques, using verbal commands, and using physical and mechanical restraints when necessary. Enforce Minnesota laws, American Correctional Association (A.C.A.) standards, and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards relating to the confinement of prisoners, security regulations, rules of conduct, and work rules. Search residents and inspect cells, recreation areas, work locations, and other activity areas for unauthorized objects or materials. Respond to and manage emergency or crisis situations using communication skills to resolve volatile situations. Observe behavior of residents and utilize behavioral management techniques/skills to assist residents in self-management of their behavior and report observations of unusual behaviors to medical or social service personnel. Escort individuals and groups of residents to work and other activities, supervise and instruct residents in work crew activities and the operation of equipment (i.e., laundry, kitchen, industrial production, stockroom, cleaning, and grounds maintenance equipment), and participate in work crew activities as needed. Write reports (e.g., disciplinary reports incident reports) and maintain records (i.e., records of residents' funds and personal property).
