JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Iowa County Sheriff\'s Office is seekingapplications for a full-time Correctional Officer position. Thisposition performs a variety of duties, either involving the care andcustody of prisoners confined to the County jail, or the operation ofthe Sheriff\'s Department communication center, including the 911system. Employees will be required to work varied hours, weekends andholidays and are expected to work overtime. This position will bescheduled for 12 hour shifts starting on the pm rotation. As aCorrectional Officer, this position acts to maintain the peace andsecurity of the jail, its inmates, the public, and property of IowaCounty. The Correctional officer\'s principal duties include activeenforcement of the law as required by departmental policy. Consequently,this position requires frequent exposure to potentially dangeroussituations through close proximity to prisoners, both in the jail andwhen transporting. This position also requires a high degree of physicalconditioning. -Maintain the integrity, peace and security of the jailand Sheriff\'s Office on a daily basis. Manages the actions of prisonersincarcerated, intervening to stop disturbances, enforcement of jailrules, conducting searches and inspections, surveillance of all inmates,taking custody of and releasing inmates, serving inmate meals, admittingvisitors, preparing reports and other required documentation. Thisposition may also require that the Correctional Officer arrest or detaina person, serve civil process papers or issue a citation(s) if necessaryduring their scheduled time. -Maintain personal health standards atrequired levels. which include the physical conditioning sufficient toaddress any threat of physical confrontation by an inmate or person.-Will maintain the security of the Iowa County Jail, Iowa CountyCourthouse, and any premises assigned to by the Sheriff or his /herdesignee. -Shall practice safety measures designed to protect all staffwhen in contact with inmates and while responding to situations in oraround the Iowa County Jail. -Will be able to respond to any high-risksituation such as an inmate out of control or riot within the IowaCounty Jail. -Shall report and respond to any unusual occurrences,violent acts and breaches of security within or around the Iowa CountyJail to the Sheriff or his designee. -Performs such other duties as maybe assigned from time to time, such as guarding an inmate in a hospital,transporting prisoners, or any other place so assigned. -Receive anddispatch all emergency and routine calls, including the 911 system tothe appropriate agency in a prompt and courteous manner. -Answersincoming Emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, identifies thenature of the complaint and dispatches the proper responding agencies tothe complaint. -Operates the TIME System Software (TIME), used fordriver\'s license checks, vehicle registration checks, queries forwarrants, etc. and other data processing systems, including ComputerAided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS) and JailManagement System (JMS). -Operates radio transmitters in accordance withthe FCC (Federal Communications Commission) rules and regulations.-Maintains confidentiality and secrecy regarding certain information anddocuments. -Shall assist the public that request information orassistance of the Iowa County Sheriff\'s Office. -Shall maintain thoserecords and documents that are required of the position by theSheriff\'s Office or by statute. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE ANDQUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications include but not limited to: 18years of age or older, high school diploma or G.E.D., valid drivers\'license, LESB jail certified or jail certifiable within one year ofemployment, demonstrated customer service job experience in whichtelecommunication equipment and computer equipment is managedsimultaneously, TIME certi ication as it relates to the dispatchfunction, ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
