A successful company is seeking a Controller through Robert Half to take responsibility for its accounting and clerical department. The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the San Antonio, Texas region. This position is for candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. Candidates who can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo, will be preferred for this position. Major responsibilities
Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management
Meet client expectations by reviewing deliverables of self and team to make sure they meet client satisfaction
Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual
Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation
Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities Requirements - Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Strong communication skills and able to receive criticism well
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Accomplished in analytical, quantitative and social skills
High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills
Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued
Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
External reporting experience preferred
SEC Reporting experience preferred
Deep understanding of SOX
Financial reporting experience
CPA experience desired
Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
