The Cook\'s Helper is responsible for assisting with the preparation ofall menu items for assigned meals and general food production. AllDining Services employees must comply with applicable sanitation, healthand safety guidelines and assist with meeting the overall objectives ofthe dining services department. We have two opportunities available. Thecurrent rate of pay is \$19.50/hour. Available shift: - Sunday -Thursday 11:30am to 8:00pm Key Responsibilities - Assist with preparingall meals (hot and cold foods) and miscellaneous food production asassigned. Ensure that all food is properly prepared and served at thecorrect temperature. Monitor food usage throughout the meal and maintainsupply of food for line or service. - As required, assist with ensuringavailability of supplies and food or approved substitutions in adequatetime for preparation. Apportion food for serving. Complete foodtemperature checks before service. - Adhere to standardized cycle menuand advise chef of any discrepancies. - Follow all standardized recipesand advise chef of any discrepancies in recipes. - Assume theresponsibilities of the cook in his/her absence; direct studentemployees and coordinate with staff in assigned roles to ensureeffective/efficient functioning of all dining services - Responsible forawareness of scheduled catering functions and for executing functions asassigned. - Assist with the timely service of all assigned meals. Assistwith food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so thatexcellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved. -Assist with/participate in the cleaning of the general work areaincluding cooking and serving areas as well as the equipment used inproduction. Qualifications - High School graduate and/or GED equivalentrequired; must be 18 years of age; one year of relevant culinaryexperience preferred. We are willing to train you in current principles,practices, equipment, materials and methods used in large-scale foodproduction. - Successful completion of annual Hazardous CommunicationTraining Program, and Food Sanitation (ServSafe) course as required.Ability to understand proper use of chemicals used in the performance ofposition duties and maintain familiarity with the chemical\'s materialsafety data sheets. Required attendance and successfulcompletion/passing of College-sponsored classes and seminars determinedby employer. - Valid/current driver\'s license preferred, good personalcleanliness and hygiene. - Exceptional customer service skills;demonstrated experience interacting and developing relationships withinternal customers. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, respond torequests with a sense of urgency, and complete work orders in a timelymanner. - Language Skills: Ability to comprehend and follow oral andwritten instructions, procedures, correspondence, and memos. Ability towrite correspondence. Ability to give full attention to what otherpeople are saying, taking time to understand the points being made,asking questions as appropriate. - Math Skills: Ability to add,subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and inventory,using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to solve problems. -Reasoning Ability: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify thestrengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions orapproaches to problems; considering the relative costs and benefits ofpotential actions and discussing ideas with supervisor. Ability to applycommon sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished inwritten, oral, or diagram form. Good organizational skills. - Use properjudgment in work assignments on a daily basis and recommend improvementsin work efficiency. Effectively manage own time. - This positionrequires successful completion and acceptable results of a backgroundcheck.
