Description

　　Robert Half is seeking an interim controller for a long-term engagement. This is a very dynamic and high-profile area with significant visibility at executive management level. In this Interim Controller role, the ideal candidate must be familiar with public and fiscal planning, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax collections, and utility accounting functions.

　　This position is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the accounting department and performs a variety of supervisory, administrative, budgetary, technical accounting and finance functions. A candidate in this role must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills; with an interest and ability to modernize and streamline processes. This long-term consulting engagement is located in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

　　The day-to-day responsibilities include:

　　Conducts month-end balancing and closing of general ledger, revenue, and expense accounts.

　　Managing a team of union and non-union employees.

　　Oversees A/P, A/R processing and utility billing.

　　Participates in the development, implementation and administration of accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and establishes goals, objectives, and priorities for area of responsibility.

　　Lead the City’s annual budget preparation, administration, and monitoring.

　　Develops finance-related ordinances and resolutions.

　　Manages special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.

　　Work is performed independently in conformance with State and Federal law, GAAP and City ordinances.

　　Provide advice and counsel to Finance Director.

　　Responsible for recommendation and implementation of department policy or procedure to improve productivity.

　　Coach, guide, evaluate, train, and motivate department employees to maximize individual and department performance.

　　Prepare written reports as required.

　　Requirements

　　The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

　　Proven ability to provide leadership across finance team by engaging with different groups around the world via virtual communication

　　Solid understanding of Municipalities

　　Expertise in budget forecasting

　　Prior experience in office and accounting computer systems

　　Capacity to assess process and internal control weaknesses and identify improvements

　　Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or other relevant field

　　10+ years professional accounting and controllership or public accounting and internal controls experience and/or Internal Audit or Controls and Compliance

　　Highly skilled at communication and negotiation with prior experience creating trusted advisor/consultant relationships and influencing Executives and Business Decision Makers

　　Demonstrated ability to implement solutions, strong analytical and communication skills as well

　　Good understanding of ERP system is highly valued
