  Mission

  The Control and Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, documenting, testing and commissioning industrial automation and control systems within constraints such as development cost, product quality, product safety and time.

  Responsibilities

  Work with other engineering domains, such as mechanical, electrical and Information Technology (IT), to solve cross-domain problems related to automation equipment and processes involving the use of sensors, actuators and IT infrastructure.

  Analyze domain problems and identify, adapt and develop technologies from the fields of automated and autonomous systems and industrial automation to address them.

  Document and validate automated processes with domain experts.

  Evaluate and develop probabilistic state estimation techniques that are relevant and applicable to decision-making automated systems.

  Integrate systems and software, considering qualities such as security, safety, performance and reliability.

  Support the senior technical team in the creation of a technical roadmap for advanced technologies stack.

  Support the engineering team in understanding and implementing technologies.

  Support and perform technology transfers from technical collaboration projects in areas of planning under uncertainty, machine learning, probabilistic reasoning and cognitive systems.

  Liaise between Research and Operations organizations to promote appropriate decision-making technologies and solutions.

  Experience & Exposures:

  Experience with PLC systems. Siemens TIA portal is a plus.

  Strong interest in user experience and not just the backend.

  Experience with power distribution circuits for control panels.

  Experience with motor controls and variable frequency drives.

  Experience with control panel design including instrument selection.

  Experience with global standards for equipment used in hazardous areas (ATEX, IECeX, FM, etc)

  Experience with 3rd party reviewers (DNV, ABS, etc)

  Interested in learning about drilling and well construction and in managed pressure drilling.

  Analyze, design, develop and maintain products and assist in their commercialization.

  Scope new or improved products, evaluate feasibility, and help specify the engineering product.

  Estimate the development, validation and documentation effort in cooperation with the Project Manager or Project Lead.

  Integrate, analyze and evaluate system, subsystem and element design and analysis.

  Develop and apply modeling and simulation technologies to specific needs of the project.

  Conduct research and provide recommendations for development, evaluation and verification of modeling efforts and criteria.

  Specify, develop, validate and maintain physics-based models of systems, subsystems and elements.

  Validate and improve the robustness and performance of products through modeling and simulation.

  Help implement, test and sustain the product.

  Define testing procedures for models, algorithms, workflows and products.

  Conduct and coordinate tests, document results and make presentations to project teams and customers.

  Provide timely corrective actions on defects.

  Investigate and propose new development areas in the Modeling and Simulation Engineering domains.

  Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.

  Adopt new practices as appropriate.

  Create and maintain project documentation.

  Participate in technical reviews and audits of projects, including requirements, specifications, designs, algorithms, codes, qualification and test results, and other artifacts.

  Contribute technical content for product documentation and training material.

  Provide training and support to customers and field representatives.

  Provide advanced methodology and algorithmic support for commercial products and services, in particular as InTouch subject matter expert.

  Make presentations to technical and management audiences.

  Contribute to design standards and support best practices and design re-use.

  Organize internal seminars and participate in industry forums, conferences and associations related to modeling and simulation.

  Author technical reports, papers, articles and presentations.

  Contribute to innovation activities and university relationships.

  Author patent and trade secret memos.

  Share expertise via Eureka and special interest groups.

  Build informal network throughout the organization.

  Mentor others as required.

  Maintain familiarity with company technology, organization and business.

  Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements as defined in the risk control matrix.
