Class 0, Step C – Class 6, Step C ($6,330.13– $8,490.72) per month based on the current AFT – Continuing Education Faculty Salary Schedule.
Initial salary placement for this Adult Instructor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Step C is the maximum step placement for a new hire, and this is non-negotiable at this time.
The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT -Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Adult Instructors earn tenure after 4 years. The San Diego College of Continuing Education seeks energetic candidates to apply for faculty positions. San Diego College of Continuing Education ( SDCCE ) is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District ( SDCCD ). As the largest provider of noncredit education in California, SDCCE’s mission is to provide accessible, equitable, and innovative quality education and career training to adult students. SDCCE has offered free career training and classes continuously for more than 100 years. Founded in 1914 on the principles of inclusion and social justice, SDCCE welcomes every immigrant, refugee and underserved population to fulfill educational goals.
Applications are now being accepted for the tenure/tenure track position of continuing education Instructional Designer beginning in Fall 2023. The college of continuing education has seven campuses serving the city of San Diego. Applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District Facility at the option of the Chancellor. The assignment may include day, evening, and or work at different campuses.
Major Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction serve as the campus specialist for instructional design and technologies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing campus distance education; support instructional learning system applications; integration of andragogy/pedagogy theories with instructional design methodology within learning systems; development of goals, objectives and assessment of learning systems; design and deliver training, materials, content and information for instructional development; and collaborate with the District Online Learning Pathways Office. Duties will also include serving on and/or chairing department and campus committees, maintaining appropriate records and reports, and participating actively in the work of the Learning Resources and Academic Support unit, college, and district. Qualifications
Qualifications: Master degree from an accredited Institution in Instructional Design or Educational Technology or equivalent.
Desired Qualifications
Recent and successful experience in college level teaching, instructional design and technologies and interfacing with faculty, with learning system development that increases student learning and success.
Ability to provide learning strategies appropriate to a variety of learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds of adult learners with diverse digital literacy levels.
Ability to support a range of educational technologies and their applications in the adult education setting.
Ability to support faculty in the design of learning systems.
Ability to develop learning systems utilizing various technologies.
Ability to assist faculty in the use of OER (Open Education Resources) materials in conjunction with the OER coordinator.
Ability to provide professional development for faculty using technologies appropriate in the learning environment.
Ability to assist and support faculty in approaches and techniques of pedagogies related to the learning environment and to instructional technologies for both distance education and in the classroom setting.
Ability to assess, develop, and deploy, educational systems and modules for a variety of instructional programs.
Demonstrated experience interfacing with faculty in gathering input, coordinating instructional software for student use in a variety of instruction and classroom modalities.
Demonstrated experience conducting workshops focusing on pedagogical designs in the development of classroom and online instructional resources.
Demonstrated experience with effective utilization of technology in the teaching and learning process, including elements of instructional design recognizing a variety of student learning styles, abilities, and educational background.
Show experience working positively and effectively within a culturally diverse environment on various projects and activities.
Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of adult learners.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills.

SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT :

Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);

Attend a new hire processing appointment in People, Culture, and Technology Services located at the District Administrative Offices; AND ,
Employed on an initial contract of one (1) year that is eligible for renewal annually for up to a subsequent one-year period.
