BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 25 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The intern will assist the Community Sponsorship Coordinator with various aspects of community sponsorship outreach and case management, volunteer management, and handling in-kind donations. Tasks may include recording donations and responding to donors, answering volunteer inquiries, maintaining records of volunteers and their service hours and processing donations of goods. Interns, will also assist with managing a growing base of community sponsorship groups and helping with case management for the clients that they are serving.
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The intern will learn about the process that refugees undertake throughout the resettlement process and how to navigate the systems in place to aid in their resettlement process. In addition, the intern will learn how to manage a team of volunteers to produce quality services for our clients in a timely manner. This includes developing strong and effective communication with the volunteer teams, learning to deal with conflict effectively, and the opportunity to learn the importance of delegating tasks to others and giving them the tools needed to do so effectively.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with outreach to potential Community Sponsors and management of active sponsorship teams.
Assist with processing, tracking, organization, and distribution of in-kind donations.
Assist with case management for clients served by the community sponsorship program.
Assistance with tracking and recording volunteer hours.
Support community outreach effort which may include contributing to IRC’s social media accounts and newsletter.
Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.
REQUIREMENTS:
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduate.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable.
Comfortable taking leadership role as appropriate.
Interested in learning about the Wichita community.
Willingness to work in a diverse inclusive environment.
While a personal vehicle is not required, it would be helpful on occasion.
