The Community Schools Teacher is a member of the Community Schoolssite-based team responsible for the overall operation of the afterschoolenrichment program for children in grades Junior Kindergarten throughFifth grade. Reporting to the Director, the Community Schools Teacherwill lead child-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculumdevelopment and be responsible for the overall management of a classroomof children. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for theoverall management of your assigned afterschool enrichment class.Supervise and manage assistants and high school youth assigned to theclassroom. Develop and implement a quality age-appropriate curriculum ina specialty area for twelve-week sessions. Directly supervise the safetyof children. Participate in and lead all program activities. Help createan environment that fosters a positive self-image and respects thesocial and cultural differences of each child and values each child\'sstrengths, needs, differences, and similarities. Maintain an open,friendly, on-going communication with families and schools about theprogress of participants. Supervise participants during snack/lunchperiods. Take daily attendance. Participate in scheduled staff meetingsand professional development. Responsible for classroom maintenance,equipment, and supplies. Report any out-of-the-ordinary incidents andaccidents to program administrators. Follow and uphold all COVID 19safety protocol and guidelines as outlined by the Dept. of Health andSafety, the Department of Human Service Programs, and the CambridgePublic Schools. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years\' experience workingwith school age children. HS Diploma/GED required. Experience workingwith children with special needs desirable and should have a stronginterest in working with children from diverse cultural & economicbackgrounds. First Aid and CPR certification highly desired (First Aid &CPR training available upon hire). The City of Cambridge\'s workforce,like the community it serves, is diverse. The employee isoccasionally required to run, during play or responding to an emergency.Employees are frequently required to engage with children on the floorand at their eye level. Employees are frequently required to use theirhands and arms to handle and manipulate objects as well as reach. Theemployee must occasionally lift and/or move a child. Vision abilitiesare required for the supervision of children. The noise level in workenvironment is moderate to loud. The work environment includes classroomand outdoor playgrounds and occasional field trips.
