Position Summary: **
Now in its 20thyear at Children’s Aid, Go!Healthy is a health promotion initiative that gets children and their families excited about eating healthy foods and provides families with the resources to live healthy, active lifestyles. Within the program sits Go!Healthy’s SNAP-Ed activities, which deliver nutrition education workshops for youth and adults coupled with broader policy, systems, and environmental strategies for behavior change. The program has transformed sites throughout Children’s Aid’s target neighborhoods into hubs for healthy eating and living in the community.
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, Nutrition Education, the Community Nutritionist will be responsible for implementing nutrition and cooking education workshops for youth and adults at Children’s Aid sites. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic educator who is passionate about positively impacting public health outcomes in community settings. They will do this by hosting in-person (and occasionally virtual) nutrition workshops that follow SNAP-Ed-approved curricula and engage participants in a dialogue about healthy behavior change.
Responsibilities:
Assist in creating lesson plans using SNAP-Ed-approved curricula, under the guidance and with the support of the Program Manager. Demonstrate how to prepare USDA-approved recipes for workshop participants and facilitate hands-on cooking experiences.
Assist the Program Manager in coordinating site logistics, including identifying opportunities for workshop series and maintaining an appropriate inventory of all program equipment.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships and communication with site leadership and staff.
Ensure smooth and compliant program implementation by completing administrative work, including data entry, attendance logs, receipt reimbursement, and other tasks as needed.
Create content participant communication, including social media, according to the program’s communication strategy.
Comply with all privacy laws including HIPAA, FERPA, etc.
Collaborate with the SNAP-Ed team and other Go!Healthy staff through participation in team meetings, facilitating information sessions and workshops, and generally supporting the Go!Healthy mission.
Passionate and dynamic educator who connects well with and inspires people of diverse ages and backgrounds. A minimum of one year of nutrition and cooking education experience with youth and adults is required.
Fluency in languages in addition to English spoken by the families served at Children’s Aid is strongly preferred, including but not limited to Spanish, Arabic, and French.
Experience and passion for promoting and increasing access to local, seasonal, and high-quality food in urban communities.
Cultural sensitivity to health- and food-related outcomes; utilizes a weight-inclusive and trauma-informed approach to nutrition education. Deep understanding of, or eagerness to learn, about food’s intersections with health equity, including common barriers to healthy eating.
Loves working in a team and values cultivating a strong team dynamic.
