  JOB SUMMARY

  The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is UConns home for foundational and interdisciplinary learning, research, and outreach. It is UConns largest and broadest unit, spanning the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and housing about 800 faculty, 200 staff, 10,000 undergraduates, and 3,000 graduate students. Its a diverse, exciting, vibrant place with something new to learn every day.

  Our team seeks a Communications Manager (Editor 2) who will tell the stories of the Colleges many successes and the exceptional people behind them. Working under the direction of the CLAS Director of Communications and Marketing, the Communications Manager will write and edit at a variety of levels, including news articles, feature articles, announcements, social media posts, marketing copy, and other areas as necessary. They will develop editorial materials and execute creative strategies to strengthen the Colleges reputation and community, using social media and digital marketing tools. They will oversee internal and external publications and build positive working relationships with faculty and students.

  This position calls for enthusiasm for both the liberal arts and the sciences, a passion for storytelling, a natural curiosity about the world, and an ability to understand and work with people from a variety of academic fields and backgrounds. The incumbent will build on the already stellar reputation of the College as the heart of UConn.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  The successful applicant will:

  Develop, write, and edit news articles, feature stories, announcements, social media posts, marketing copy, and other content to promote the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its units.Manage the Colleges social media platforms, including planning, strategy, execution, and assessment.Develop and maintain positive relationships with unit heads, faculty, and staff; leverage these relationships to unearth news stories and interview expert sources.Produce and work with collaborators to source imagery, video, design, and other materials for editorial and marketing materials.With the Director of Communications and Marketing, develop and set editorial content strategy to elevate the reputation and community of the College.Serve as lead editor and producer for College publications, including biweekly and monthly faculty and staff newsletters, and quarterly alumni newsletter.Work with the Director to ensure the broad diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and academic areas in CLAS are represented in editorial and marketing materials.Meticulously manage editorial and marketing content calendars; assess and adjust approaches as necessary.Oversee a portfolio of student marketing and communications initiatives, including leadership-level talks, student events, and social media takeovers; serve as liaison to established CLAS undergraduate student leadership group.Assist with marketing projects and materials such as brochures, presentations, web copy, reports, signage, etc.Work regularly with other UConn offices, including communications, information technology, alumni relations and development, and other areas to further shared College goals.Perform related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Bachelors degree in English, humanities, communications, journalism, digital media, or a related field.Two to three years of experience in writing and digital marketing, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.Demonstrated exceptional journalistic writing skills.Proven ability to translate complex topics into accessible language.Experience managing social media production and strategy.Ability to create and carry out communications plans.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in storytelling approaches.Experience with WordPress and Adobe Photoshop.PREFERRED QUAL FICATIONS

  An advanced degree in a related field.Experience working in higher education.A demonstrated appreciation for the mission of a liberal arts educational institution.Experience managing publication production schedules.Ability to engage, connect, and work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.APPOINTMENT TERMS

  This is a full-time, permanent position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
