This role coordinates and implements holistic support to enhance student experience and retention to degree. This position collaborates and aligns resources with TRIO Student Support Services and with other academic and student support units across campus to engage students in critical educational activities. General aspects of this role include coordination of initiatives geared toward first generation and/or low-income students, coordinate the PES first year course and teach a section, and development, implementation, evaluation of student support programming, and managing a moderate advising caseload. Job Responsibilities President's Emerging Scholars Program (PESP) Coordination (25%) Using an equity minded awareness, develop and implement creative approaches and practices to accomplish student development programming goals and to improve procedures and systems, and to impact policy change. Create and establish a CEHD PES (non-TRIO SSS) student experience programming while maximizing alignment with the TRIO SSS programming and campus-wide PES initiatives. Collaborate with various PES stakeholders across campus as needed to create this experience. Manage the development, evaluation and revision of curriculum for the PES sections of EDHD 1701 college transitions and identity course, and teach a section of the course each fall. Participate in curriculum review of EDHD 1701 annually with TRIO SSS staff. Assess needs of PES (non-TRIO SSS) students and develop and implement programming, activities, and services based on those findings. Including the selection and chaperoning students at off-campus leadership conferences. Collaborate with CEHD Career Services team to design and implement career development programming and initiatives to get PES students connected early and throughout their educational career. Track and report on PES student progress using degree progress and retention data along with qualitative data to inform programming decisions and effective practices. Create a streamlined and effective process for PES students to explore and declare CEHD and non-CEHD majors in collaboration with relevant parties. Create PES (non-TRIO SSS) specific orientation programming, materials and messaging for first year students. Lead, participate and represent CEHD in PES events/meetings/committees as requested. Undergraduate Academic Advising (50%) Manage a caseload of 150-175 undergraduate students, primarily composed of PES (non-TRIO SSS) students, utilizing a holistic advising model, guide, challenge, and support students in becoming self-reliant and learning to make important reflective decisions about major, personal, and career aspirations. Identify, understand, and apply student development theory to guide students to reflect on important decisions that challenge and support their progress while also adapting advising methods to support their individual and diverse needs. Interpret, uphold, and communicate policies established by the institution to students and faculty; influence decision-making in the application of policies using equity-minded thinking. Influence retention and degree progress by developing strong relationships and trust through numerous and varying developmental contact methods across their academic lifespan. Develop a comprehensive understanding of careers services and integrate its importance in the undergraduate student experience into advising interactions. Employ analytical reviews of student progress reports at key academic markers, such as probation, degree application, or major declaration, and appro e appropriate exceptions. Use APLUS, PeopleSoft, APAS, and other software info systems to maintain accurate information about student interactions in order to best support the student as they navigate campus. Offer a sustained, high level of voiced student advocacy in order to directly impact student retention and degree progress. Participate in new student orientation, sneak preview, and open house events. Student Services Advising Lead (20%) Serve as a lead liaison to departmental major(s). Create and maintain productive working relationships with departmental staff and faculty. Provide assessment and guidance regarding undergraduate curriculum development, pre-major to major orientation processes, policies and procedures, and individual student issues. Provide coaching and expertise regarding student relationships, resources, barriers to progress, access, understanding undergraduate student needs and the student experience. Identify and resolve enrollment management issues as they arise in terms of course access, availability, and impact on student degree progress and develop tracking mechanisms to improve barriers. Influence and advocate in development of major declaration and admission standards. Consult in developing communication tools specific to major student needs. Support creation and implementation of additional workshops/resources for students in CEHD majors. Program Service & Development (5%) Coordinate major advising efforts with career services initiatives. Stay abreast of current trends and philosophies in student development programming, academic advising, engage in scholarly or creative activities in the areas of advising, academic progress, and service delivery. Participate in professional development events and activities in the unit, College, University, and/or broader community. Serve on Student Services, College and University-wide committees as requested. Participate in college recruitment events. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus at least six years of relevant experience to include experience in academic advising in higher education, master's degree plus at least four years of experience. Demonstrated commitment to integrating equity awareness into work practices and the ability to support students with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Demonstrated ability to build meaningful relationships in an education setting with a large and diverse student, staff, and faculty population. Demonstrated understanding of student development theories and ability to integrate advising philosophies with daily practice. Ability to disseminate detailed information using a high level of interpersonal skills and a strong ability to present to large groups. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict. Excellent time management, attention to detail, organization, and problem solving skills. Proven experience showing excellent oral and written communication skills. Technological competence related to student support services and ability to learn new systems and software...
