  South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) (http://southtexasblood.org/) , a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, is a not-for-profit community blood center specializing in a variety of services to include providing blood, plasma, platelets and other blood components to numerous hospitals in 43 South Texas counties. STBTC is a community partner focused on enhancing health care through innovation and stewardship.

  General Summary

  Responsible to perform and assist coordination of all operational aspects of the Cord Blood and Birth Tissue Collection in hospitals.

  Ensure all collection and labeling procedures are performed in compliance with prescribed regulations. Maintain competency to include training and the performance of high complexity procedures.

  Provide world class customer service by capturing and being responsive to the voice of the customer (internal or external, including donors for select positions) through multiple feedback channels in order to resolve issues and drive satisfaction in accordance with the BBG customer engagement, feedback, and complaint processes.

  It is essential that the incumbent have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years old with a good driving record to meet organization driving standards.

  Major Duties and Responsibilities

  Essential Tasks

  Coordinate the process for cord blood and/or birth tissue collections with hospitals, physicians, nurse midwives, and Labor and Delivery staff.

  Coordinate and provide educational and training activities/materials for donation/collection processes to obstetricians, obstetrical offices staff, expectant mothers, and hospital Labor and Delivery staff.

  Participate, as needed, in the cord blood collection and/or birth tissue collection processes and perform handling/labeling in accordance with procedures.

  Review paperwork related to collection processes.

  Perform venous phlebotomy collections as trained and required.

  Utilize the data management system at the hospital and/or BioBridge Global.

  As needed, initiate a manual quality event report and investigate event with hospital and GenCure staff.

  Maintain adequate levels of collection supplies through regular supply requests to GenCure.

  Ensure collection supplies are organized and secured as appropriate.

  Protect donor and her family’s protected health information (PHI) from unauthorized release.

  Perform informed consent, eligibility screening, and medical/social history with donors and ensure compliance of all established guidelines/standards and processes.

  Monitor and evaluate incoming collections and prepare for transport to accessioning/processing laboratory.

  Maintain annual training competencies for cord blood and birth tissue collections.

  Assist with the development of cord blood and birth tissue procedures according to the AATB, AABB, FACT, ISO, FDA, and GMP standards.

  Assist in validations as needed.

  Maintain and oversee environmental monitoring of equipment and collections.

  Maintain a close working relationship with the appropriate management keeping him/her informed on issues pertaining to cord blood and birth tissue collections.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  Non‐Essential Tasks

  Education

  Requires a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.

  Prefer one or more years of medical education.

  Licenses and/or Certifications

  Valid United States Driver’s License

  Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred

  Experience

  Requires two or more years of customer service experience.

  Requires two or more years of medical background experience.

  Knowledge

  Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

  Must acquire a working knowledge of medical terminology.

  Must obtain competency in all required aspects of collection and labeling procedures for procurement of cord blood and birth tissues following a live birth.

  Must recognize unusual responses/reactions or difficulties encountered in all phases of collection.

  Skills

  Must be prepared to identify root causes of problems and select the best course of action when circumstances require.

  Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions.

  Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  Must be able to print and write legibly.

  Abilities

  Must be able to keep information confidential.

  Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.

  Must be professional, detail oriented, self‐motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability to work independently.

  Working Environment

  Works in a well‐lighted air conditioned and heated hospital/laboratory/department.

  May be exposed to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards and other conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment.

  May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical laboratory environment.

  May have bodily exposure to refrigerator/freezer temperature, especially hands and face.

  Will work extended hours during peak periods.

  May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend to include being on‐call.

  Ability to use personal motor vehicle for company business required.
