  Job Summary

  Under general supervision, reviews medical record documentation to abstractand assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statisticalclassification and reimbursement purposes. Performs various coding assignmentsunder the direction of Coding Management. Provides feedback regardingdocumentation and coding issues. Utilizes software applications and codingreferences to perform coding related tasks. Additionally, assists intraining, mentoring, and quality assurance of Level I and Level II codersas directed by Coding Management. Required to interact with clinicaldepartments as needed. Demonstrates leadership and teambuilding skills.

  Essential Functions:

  Meets or exceeds the minimum coding productivity standard for the type orcoding performed. (10%)Submits a fully completed and accurate production log weekly in a timelymanner. (10%)Meets or exceed the minimum coding accuracy rate of 95%. (10%)Meets or exceeds the minimum timeliness standard. (10%)Participates in coder and provider education including documentationimprovement efforts for providers. (10%)Interacts with providers, nursing staff, and departments as assigned. (10%)Assists in the training and quality assurance of Level I and II coders. (5%)Completes any required coding training or other assigned coding instruction.(5%)Participates in departmental coding and educational meetings and trainings.(5%)Maintains current coding credential and pursues additional coding credentials.(5%)Follows all hospital and departmental procedures. Follows directions given byCoding Management. (5%)Manages resources in a conservative, responsible and cost-effective manner.(5%)Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining asecure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on thejob, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities.(5%)Works as a member of a coding team for the successful benefit of thedepartment and DHHA. Strives for strong unit cohesion by working well withother members of the team and performing tasks in a manner that maintains theunit cohesion. (5%)Education:

  Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program RequiredWork Experience:

  4-6 years medical coding with multi-specialty experience or specialtycertification. Required andStrong procedural coding Required andExperience reviewing medical record documentation RequiredLicenses:

  CCS-Certified Coding Specialist - AAPC - American Academy of Procedural CodersRequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Applies advanced knowledge of coding, with a knowledge of hospital basedacademic guidelines.Knowledge of encoder and data abstraction software.Strong knowledge of billing and reimbursement.Possess good oral and written communication skills.Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently andmeet deadlines.Must be capable of reading and interpreting coding guidelines and makingsubsequent coding decisions.Knowledgeable in researching coding related topics and issues.Ability to handle a fast paced environment and be a positive role model.Must pass a coding proficiency pre-hire test with 80% accuracy or higher.Good computer keyboarding skillsKnowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.Epic experience helpful.3M encoder experience helpful.
