Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is a leading refiner and recycler of precious group metals. The growing demand for low carbon and responsibly sourced products is creating growth opportunities in critical metals recycling and secondary refining, and as the world’s largest precious metals recycler, PGMS is a key player in the circular economy.
Your Responsibilities:
Available to work 2nd shift or 3rd shift
Receives instructions, prints and work orders.
Must have working knowledge of the standard CNC “G” code language needed to run standard CNC equipment.
Selects and grinds tools for the job in accordance with hardness, machineability, desired finish, and other properties of parts to be machined and/programming requirements.
Interprets ANSI standards, blueprints, drawings and sketches.
Working knowledge of geometric tolerancing (understanding symbols on blueprints).
Plans and determines working procedure for tools and materials requirements along with the Engineering Department.
Designs simple tools, jigs, and fixtures.
Makes sketches of parts and performs any layout desired.
Calculates and determines dimensions, tapers, indices and other data using shop formulae and handbooks, as necessary.
Sets up any type of machine tool common to the trade, adjusting stops, feeds speeds and indexing, tapering, or threading attachments and performs any type of operation for which the machine is adapted. Machines and hand finishes parts to precision tolerances and required surface.
Uses precision measuring instruments; assembles, fits, aligns and adjusts parts to very close tolerance. Applies ordinary heat treatment to ferrous materials of any shape, requiring a general knowledge of physical properties of materials, critical temperatures, various techniques of heat-treating, drawing tempering, annealing and the application of various quenching mediums.
Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices and techniques, properties of various materials, the principles of application and operation of various types of tools, fixtures, dies, instruments, and machinery, and the ability to plan and execute difficult work to precision tolerances.
Working knowledge of basic computer functions, as needed to store or retrieve CNC Programs.
Performs and maintains responsibility for all in-process inspection, per standard inspection procedures throughout course of any given job, also responsible for practical knowledge of all inspection equipment necessary on any given job and maintenance of same.
Requirements for the role:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Proven experience as a CNC Machinist
Proficiency in operating CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC) and CNC Lathe (2-4 axis) machines
Strong knowledge of Calipers and Micrometers for accurate measurements
Familiarity with GD&T principles and blueprint reading
Ability to program and edit G-Code and M-Code
Experience with CAD/CAM software for programming and simulation
Excellent manual machining skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication and problem-solving skills
Prior experience with Bridgeport and Dmg Mori Seiki machines is a plus
