  A Brief OverviewThe Clinical Nurse-Float Pool II is a clinically competent practitioner of pediatric, family-centered nursing. The nurse, at this level, provides safe nursing care to the general unitpopulation ICU, Medical, Surgical, and at least 1 specialty area as defined in SupplementalStaffing Nursing Policy, with minimal guidance and bases practice on identified principles andstandards of care.

  Minimum Total Hours: 80 hours per 8 week schedule period (0.25 FTE)Weekend Requirement: 36 hours per 8 week schedule periodDepartment: Flex TeamHoliday Requirement (Winter/Summer): NoneShifts Available: Evenings / Nights / Weekends

  What you will do1. Nursing PracticeFollows Nursing Process to deliver safe care: assessment, planning, implementation,and evaluation.Synthesizes patient assessment data and recognizes complex situations prior tocommunicating with care team.Collaborates with family, team members, and other caregivers to initiate/update planof care, patient/family education, and discharge needs.Manages care of complex patients utilizing proper prioritization and delegation toappropriate staff.Identifies expected outcomes, revises plan of care when unexpected outcomes arise,and begins to use full range of communication as a means of conveying plan.Documents ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of patient care utilizing current hospital standards, policies, and procedures.Provides care that meets professional standards of practice and meets regulatory requirements.2. Professionalism/LeadershipRole models appearance and behaviors that promote a positive image of nursing.Interacts with parents/patients and colleagues with respect and dignity.Spends the extra time with families, listening for avenues to improve on the ideal patient experience.Understands the impact of arriving to work on time, is ready to start the shift, and predicts challenges and obstacles.Provides an accurate patient status report to members of the team that reflect nursing interventions and patient outcomes.Actively participates in patient care rounds and makes recommendations to the plan of care.Chairs and/or participates in unit PPM council and may participate in departmental PPM council.3. ResearchReads nursing articles, analyzes information, and initiates staff discussion(s).Assists with data collection in research studies being conducted in work area.Participates in efforts to apply research findings to clinical practice.Frames basic research questions.4. LearningIdentifies own learning needs. Seeks out opportunities to meet needs and attends all required programs.Applies education and training from internal in-services to daily work to enhance personal nursing knowledge and skills.Attends education programs related to patient population.Utilizes patient education materials relevant to patient populat on.Demonstrates healthcare informatics competency to manage patient care, outcome data, and current and emerging healthcare technology, which include:Basic computer competency, including the effective use of patient care devices, computers, computer software programs such as e-mail and word processing programs, and shared network file space.Information literacy, including the effective use of the Intranet and Internet to find electronic resources for patient care, nursing practice, and evidence-based decision-making.Information management skills, including the effective use of the electronic health record and clinical information systems, the ability to collect clinical data using quality tools, and the ability to discuss, evaluate, and analyze outcome data presented in charts and tables.5. Resource ManagementParticipates in promoting quality, efficient, and cost-effective care.Monitors own usage of supplies and equipment. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations.Manages own time to accomplish direct/indirect care in a cost-efficient manner.Education QualificationsTechnical Diploma Nursing RequiredBachelor's Degree Nursing PreferredExperience QualificationsAt least two (2) years Pediatric Nursing experience RequiredSkills and AbilitiesComputer CompetencyBasic Use of MS Word 2007.Creating meeting minutes, charts, and tables.Saving and naming new and established files.Basic Use of MS PowerPoint 2007.Creating education presentations using clip art.Basic Use of MS Excel 2007.Creating simple spreadsheets, sometimes using symbols.Navigation and basic search functions of the Internet using Internet Explorer.Use of MS Outlook 2007 email, opening attachments, attaching new files to emails, and saving attached files to computer.Use of shared network file space.Basic use of computers, printers, monitors, patient care devices, and fax machines.Navigation and use of Sortec Nurse Call system.Information LiteracyUse of Internet and Intranet to look up basic electronic resources for practice.Ability to find and print Patient Family Education Documents.Ability to find PPM Department Council minutes from last month.Ability to find and navigate Department of Nursing websites and related linked CHOP resource sites.Ability to perform a literature search on the Internet and ability to find professional journal and/or research-based articles.Ability to evaluate Internet sites for reliability.Information Management LiteracyNavigation of electronic health information recordsAbility to review specific patient data in a clinical information system.Understanding of policies and procedures around timeliness of care, use of a clinical information system, and support of safe nursing practice.Utilize applicable clinical pathways.Ability to collect raw clinical data using quality tools.Ability to discuss, evaluate, and analyze outcome data in charts and tables.Discuss the responsibilities of each user of an electronic record related to confidentiality and privacy.Coordination of patient care information in a fragmented environment, where there are both electronic and hard copy references.Licenses and CertificationsRegistered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required orNursing Temporary Practice Permit (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Req
