Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Perform nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures.
· Execute prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitor and document treatment progress and patient response.
· Refer to/consult with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns.
· Educate patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
· Document patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
· Participate in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
· Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use. (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices). Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms whenever available to maximize patient safety.
· Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
· Triages patients and phone calls during business hours; and problem solves with staff, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments as appropriate.
· Communicate with patient regarding tet results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assists with miscellaneous office duties (i.e., greeting patients, maintenance patient record, answering phones, obtaining prior authorization and scheduling).
· Maintains patient care supplies, equipment, and environment.
· Provides orientation/education for staff, students, and residents as requested.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
· BSN preferred.
· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter –Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
· Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
· Advanced Life Support certified.
· Complete Bedside EKG Monitoring Course.
