  The Opportunity

  Abt is seeking a data analytics candidate with a background in climate and energy science to join our growing team in the Digital and Data Services (DDS) Division. Our division provides data science methods, data visualization, and automation tools to a broad range of government agencies and foundations. Much of this work is focused on public policy, program evaluation, and data modernization in such areas as energy, environment, healthcare, public health, housing, and human services, both within the US and internationally. The successful applicant for this position will primarily collaborate with Abt’s domestic environmental and energy sector clients.

  The candidate will work with internal colleagues and external clients to apply data to answer complex technical questions. They will manage, plan and implement data cleaning; analyze and visualize textual and numerical data; and may rely on various tools in Azure and AWS cloud environments to deploy analytics or modeling workflows. In addition, the successful candidate will develop analysis plans, communicate the strengths and weaknesses of various analyses, and identify and apply appropriate analytic techniques.

  The selected candidate must be experienced in climate and/or energy modeling in Python, R, or other programming languages. Experience in SQL, collaborative version control, and cloud environments is a plus, as is knowledge of digital and development processes and management practices.

  Core Responsibilities

  Collect data from various sources, e.g., webscraping and APIs and perform data management tasks (data wrangling, cleaning, etc.)

  Write and review code in various programming languages, including Python or R.

  Design and implement quality assurance and management processes, including documentation of analytical requirements, version control, and code defect management.

  Write plans, present results in multiple formats, and document processes.

  Manage tasks and small teams, interact with clients.

  What We Value:

  PhD plus 0 years of experience, MS plus 3 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  PhD or MS focused on climate or energy

  Core understanding of complex climate and energy data containing temporal and spatial variation.

  Understanding of climate model outputs and how to apply them to energy sector.

  Published climate science and/or energy manuscripts, dashboards, or products.

  Understanding of common data analytics practices and code development tools.

  Strong interpersonal skills.

  Experience with timeseries data and data sets with complex relationships.

  This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,000 to $125,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
